Getting rid of surnames

The sole purpose of surnames in MMO's anyways is to allow people to have the first name they want without worrying about someone taking it, as they simply just need to use a different surname, which I feel is less important, since people tend to relate to your character using it's first name.

At the same time perhaps they could just allow you to have a choice whether to give your character a surname or not.

Yeah I would have preferred an option. My character names are always just whatever is near me. My FFXIV character - I had car oil next to my shoes. Mobil 1 Synthetic. Pumas. Synthetic Puma was born. Do i see the benefits of surnames, of course! I think they are quite cool for games to have. Just would rather it be an option.

Haha. I used to have "I love ... lamp" moments like that too.

I suppose it could have been optional, but I think having it non-optional keeps everyone on an even playing field (which is important because everyone should have to abide the same rules, convenient or otherwise).

Changing it now would probably be a waste of time anyway.

Yea this was part of my discussion. Even with the removal of surnames you will still get people that'll choose stupidly convoluted names.

Even so, I doubt Konata is that common. ^^

I've personally never met another Kamara. Even on other servers - though some were close.

Konata has become a very popular name to use in online MMO's with anime feels to them because of this Konata
