    If you can see:

The amount of possibilities for names are only enhanced by allowing, at free will, for people to choose only ONE name.

Essentially you're creating a free space for EVERYONE to choose every name that currently exists, by simply not having a last name. That's what? another 30,000 name possibilities right there.

And people are arguing the point that surnames create more immersion. lol.

No they certainly dont - they only clutter the screen and the chat log. Especially when coming across a particularly retardedly long name. (which will happen with or with out surnames obviously for those of you who havent read the entire thread). My point is immersion.

Y'know... I'm not picking on you or anything, but it seems that people have lost what the word' immersion' actually means.

I may make a thread to fully explain it's meaning and how people are misinterpreting it, right after I've eaten this cheeseburger toastie. (It's yummy)

Hotpotato salad would have benefitted from us having middle names though.

The point is much simpler. Removing surnames at this point is *not feasible* and asking it is not reasonable, ergo this thread is void.

It's not even new, by the way. A well known troll already brought it up once (in order to troll), and he's been hit by a choir of "shut up!".

Its nice to see this thread going off into talks about how people choose names for their characters, as this is half my issue.

The argument that people will miss out the space in a full name - obvious

The argument that they make the game more immerse - null and voided.

The argument that a singular name actually enhances a 'full choice' of names - not answered.

Mostly what I've read is the pop culture references for why it is important to people to name their character. And thats cool. If you really want that, more power to you; At the least i'm asking for the same power.

Essentially it is feasible to do, and as I've stated in this thread, why can't this be thrown in with the PS3 "relaunch" as we will be given new genders to change to around that time.

The idea that surnames should be "required" by everyone is archaic. That's just my 2 cents. Apparently I'm a troll. So be it.

As I've (sort of) touched on in my previous post, I don't care about immersion with character names. For me, the name is for the person I'm playing with, not their character. I find that more "immersive" than having to read some of the over-thought full names which ultimately mean nothing to me as a player. I'm not in this world, I'm not my character, I'm me. I care about the names of my friends, not these character role-play names.

I'll remember and cherish the memory of playing with someone called, for instance, Sexytaru over Ravencrowbladelegoslasgimli Dragoncrest anyday.

The argument that a singular name actually enhances a 'full choice' of names - The purpose of choice is for someone to be able to choose what they want and get it. With one-word names, anyone who has taken a particular name will then remove that choice from another player. With the surname option, you can have the first name and last name of your choice, allowing more versatility in your characters name and letting you get the name of your choice. This 'should' make you happy. To remove surnames is to LIMIT your choice for a name, not enhance it.

My characters name is Konata Chibi. It was my first choice for a name. I got the name. I am happy (b'.')b

The only other option is to associate a name with an account, like Champions Online does. This means you can have any name you like even if someone else is using it, because your name would read in full: [insert name]@[insert account name]
Champions Online also allowed me to add symbols into my name and spaces if I so wished, and no one would need to type in that name when sending me a /tell because only the account name was needed, which was all one word.

This way my name would read Konata Chibi@Konachibi, so in order to send me a /tell, you'd simply have to type in /tell Konachibi, and I would receive it regardless of what character I was playing or it's name.

No. It's not feasible, because putting a system in place to force everyone that chose the same name second (or third, or fouth and so forth) to change their name would be a PR disaster, and an immense waste of resources, for something that the majority (as you may have noticed on your own redundant thread, because the idea has already been shot down before) doesn't even want.

Even more silly to do so with the PS3 launch, as it would basically be telling new PS3 players "hey, you'll never have the name you want, because PC players have been around before you"

    Give it up.
