Make personal houses bind on account instead?

I've been seeing a lot of stuff on how there are too few houses, and a number of suggestions for alleviating the issue. Some practical, some not practical.

My favorite so far is opening houses to one's friend list, etc. And I was thinking that another variation of that might be to make houses bind on account instead. You're allowed to only own one house at a time (the exception being if you are a FC Master and purchase one for the FC and one for yourself), and any alts would have full access to everything within that house.

Such a set up won't solve all housing issues, but it would at least alleviate the problem with folks buying houses for their alts (since not everyone wants a room at their FC) and then never using them. Just to throw that out there.

I like this idea, it would also be nice for them to have a shared account storage to move items between alts, and maybe a house could be used for that.

By account per server anyway. I have 7 characters and I don't mind this concept. However it better not limit private rooms in FC houses!

Not that many people own multiple personal houses.. I know they certainly exist, but it's not the main cause of housing shortage..
Besides, with the clunky UI and implementation SE has shown so far, I doubt they could implement an account-wide shared housing..
Hell, it's taking them months just to implement this shared housing between eternal bonded ones.. and it STILL hasn't been implemented.

In LOTRO all the alts share the same house. When I was still playing, I had a deluxe elf house and I was sharing it with all my alts. It is doable.

Oh I'm not doubting the feasibility of it..
Just how fast SE can implement it once they decide to work on it..

We've been waiting 2 years for addons, about 5 months for shared housing between eternal bonded.. etc..
Even simple fixes take them forever it seems

You want to get rid of the greedy people that have multiple houses when some people don't have any. Why not get rid of greedy people with personal houses altogether when some FCs don't have one?

What do you do about the people that already have multiple houses, take away all but one?

The objective isn't to punish people who have multiple houses now. Or even people, like myself, who did the horribly unthinkable and purchased their own house instead of leaving it vacant for an FC. The objective is to help try and free up some of the plots. I'm absolutely certain that if they made this switch those who owned multiple houses, for whatever reason, could be compensated. Perhaps even just by getting to choose which one to keep and getting their gil back on the rest.
