Mac version / Steam

I currently play the PC version of the game through Steam. That's all fine and good, but it's not my main computer I play on. That's because my main computer is a Mac, but since the game is coming out on Mac I'll want to have everything moved over there.

However on the preorder page for the Steam version of the game I'm only seeing a Windows icon. Is there no way to purchase the Mac version through Steam? Is there any way to purchase HW standalone for Mac when I have a Windows license? Would I need a separate Mac license to play the game at all? :S It is rather confusing and none of this info is really published anywhere. Any help is appreciated.

Yes you need a separate licence for the Mac. Each platform (PC/PS3/PS4/Mac) needs it's own licence and another for the expansion for every platform you want to play that on.

No Steam doesn't sell the Mac version of FFXIV, only Windows at this time.

You can buy the Mac version of FFXIV direct from Square Enix (comes with Heavensward for Mac too as it's a bundle!), but it's not released until the 23rd June.

If you got it through steam, you may be screwed then. As you cannot add another "PC" account along side the steam account without losing everything you've done so far. As SE will only allow you to use one "pc" account and steam is a "PC-Steam" and counts towards that one "pc" account apparently. It's one of the reasons why a lot of people are upset right now.

He's not trying to add another PC account, he's trying to get the Mac version from Steam. Mac version is not classed as the PC version, it's treated as a completely different console (PC/Mac/PS3/PS4) so there's no problems with the Mac version being added to either a PC on/off Steam.

Okay, thank you. I do not really mind re-buying the Mac version (I figured I'd have to do that anyway) but I just wanted to know whether I should bother with the Steam version or not. It's not a problem for me to have the game locked to Steam, but they usually do crossplay for games that work on PCs or Macs so I didn't want to waste money buying a copy on Steam that I can't use on my main computer.
