A (Hopefully) Comprehensive Chocobo Racing Guide

Hey guys! I recently finished a blog that at least attempts to be a comprehensive guide to the chocobo racing minigame. It's intended to have a selection of topics that cater to a large range of skill levels, from complete newbies to seasoned race jockeys. All the posts are organized based on a tiered system - Beginner is designed for newbies, Intermediate is for people with some experience, and Advanced is for people who have their sights set on the so-called "endgame" of chocobo racing.

Anyway, check it out and let me know what you think!

really good guide. very detailed and some info that i didnt know yet even after reading almost everything on this forum about races.

I got one question about raising the final chocobo. You said that it's best to max out a stat with grade 3 food when the difference between 500(the maximum) and your current value is a multiple of 15, so that none of the food's stat gain gets wasted. But are you sure that the random stats you get after leveling up get split between the remaining 4 attributes? I remember reading somewhere that when leveling up after maxing an attribute, any stat gains that would normally go to your maxed attribute would be wasted.

    Yes.

I took data from all of my chocobo's rank-ups to come to the conclusions I did about how rank ups work.

My first G9 chocobo had five rank-ups with maxed Speed and still gained a normal five-percentage-point growth in each case. My sixth G9 chocobo had one rank-up with Speed maxed and one rank-up where both Speed and Stamina were maxed, and these were both also normal. The odds of this occurring randomly are extremely low, so I think I can say this with pretty good certainty.

Very complete and helpful guide. Though I would add something you haven't even considered: 500 max speed is definitely not necessary in my opinion, you can do perfectly fine with 470-480, in fact, you almost sprint at the same speed while having a significantly larger pool of stamina. I have a 470 max speed 500 endurance, 500 stamina chocobo with head start and choco cure III and I can take a double bachus wine to the face in sagolii and still get to the line sprinting the entire race without ever getting lathered (and without grabbing a single choco potion/stamina tablet/hero's tonic). For obvious reasons, not maxing max speed is also more viable in Costa del Sol and Tranquil Paths. At 500 max speed stamina drain items hurt you far more (wines, meteors, even the occasional caltrop) and you can't sprint the entire race in Costa and Tranquil . But I guess it's all a matter of opinion <.<.
