    But you also need multiple accounts for it.

    How do I open a second instance of the game though? I just get this error when I try to open it a second time "The FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn Updater/Launcher is already running."

    Sandboxie. Google it.
    I've been using it for quite some time to dualbox (bot :P ) in another MMO.
    First you launch one client sandboxed, then another one not sandboxed. Opposite won't work. Limited (free) Sandboxie allows you to have only one (1) sandbox. It's enough for previous usage scenario.
    If you want to run more than two instances of the same application, then you must run each instance in different sandbox.
