The RMT spam is the only thing I really dislike. Hell, it makes me not want to play any more.
And before someone says, "just edit your tell tab", I can't because I don't like swapping tabs and I use tells often.

There's an infestation on Balmung, now? o_O Granted, I haven't been on my Balmung noob in a few weeks, but last I remember I got maybe one every few hours... utter heaven compared to Couerl and other less populated servers at their -peak- RMT days... of getting one or two every so many minutes (1-5 mins).
...
If this is true, then we're all doomed. *Creates RMT bomb shelter*
They're probably working hard on it as we speak, no need for another thread like this...
I hope you understand that it's pretty much impossible for them to stop the RMT players completely, unless they want to make it harder for normal players too... All they can do is make it harder for the RMT to actually annoy people. That's not the easiest to do without making it worse for everyone else too. They could make options for /busy, to only block tells of people that aren't in your friends list, FC or LS, and then have a white-list on top of that, so you can add other people you run with.
Other than that, it gets a little more complicated, and you can be sure that the RMT will find every possible way to annoy you.
My server (Phoenix), have one of the most effective solutions to the problem... big population. I think it's pretty hard making new characters, because I haven't gotten a single friend invite from RMT for weeks, and I get like 1 /tell a week right now(I play less now though). Never got party invite from RMT, and don't think I've ever seen RMT spam chat. But at the same time, other players can't make a new character either(I assume, or Phoenix have some secret lol). I think a lot of the solutions will face similar problems of affecting us normal players...

The only sure fire way to deal with RMT is for players to stop buying there gil. Sense that will never happen, then RMT will never go away. Don't blame SE, blame the players, they are the only one at fault.

Even so, there's no reason to spam in game. Like back when WoW was huge people joined a site to sell gold/item/accounts. (Well, I always saw posts like when I would buy old games off craigslist atleast)
I don't care that people buy/sell stuff since they have a chance to get banned and it has nothing to do with me, but once I start getting harrassed in game to buy stuff to the point my blacklist gets full, I'm gonna be a littttle pissy.
This is so absurd. Yes, players are at fault, but so is SE for not DOING anything about it. And no, their hollow bans don't count since it has little effect. QoL suggestions have been hammered over and over again yet SE has ignored it for god knows how long now. The playerbase has cried out for help and SE has plugged sand in their ears and put a blindfold over their eyes.
I would agree that a megathread is more effective to get the message across(noticed a previous poster already linked it, it's also in my sig.) But SE seems to be ignoring that as well. Sure hope they fix this come HW or new players are going to leave in droves and the web will be abuzz with HW reviews talking about how bad the RMT spam is.

:P
I see this a lot, and it's true, but only in a very technical sense. Like, world peace is easily achievable, we just need to stop having wars.
A 1-step solution isn't necessarily easy if that 1 step is something ridiculously difficult to accomplish
When in doubt, assume sarcasm

I don't understand what you mean. There is a reason for them to spam in game, its to get sales. Or to fish people into there site so that they will buy gil. And you should care that people buy it, because that is why that market even exists(and why its effecting you). I'm sorry your pissy, we've all had to deal with this problem. Everyone on any MMO has to deal with the problem. All the devs of all those MMOs have to deal with that problem the best way they can. I don't let it bother me because I've been into mmo's for over 15 years. Not nearly as long as some, but I've had enough exposure to RMT to know it's not something to get your panties in a wad about. Do what you can to deal with it on your end. You say your blist is full. Chances are you can remove just about all of those. I don't even bother to blist them anymore because they are suspended/banned so quickly that I don't get tells from the same RMT more then once anymore. And SE will do what they can on their end. It's a constant struggle for everyone involved. But the blame of it all rests squarely on the ones buying into it. So instead of all these thousands of threads screaming at SE to do something. #1 they are doing everything they can, rest assured. #2 let's instead make thousands of threads screaming at players to STOP BUYING GIL. Because that is the root cause currently.

You misunderstand me. I don't care about gil sellers, I just meant they don't have to advertise in game. "But Prince, they're only doing that because people are buying gil!" Welll, 1: Those links seem shaddy AF. 2: Ban more sellers and buyers.
People will never stop buying because they're lazy/want big toys. And I know DEVs are trying, and I'm getting sick of these threads too, but it's just an annoyance that won't go away any time soon.
As far as the blacklists goes, I just do it to stop their spamming and occasionally go down the list to delete names because I do get tells/shouts from RMT folks more than once if I don't.
I know SE is doing what they can, but more can always be done.
People won't stop buying/selling so we're just screwed in the mean time.
