I have a feeling half of the people saying this kind of remarks is what got us the current vertical progression treadmill.I have a feeling half of those people asking this kind of questions are new to MMORPGs. It's an expansion, older stuff will most likely be useless at lv 60. You get your relic and use it in 2.X, and up to some point in 3.X (or skins if you wish). It's almost like saying farming FCoB for Dreadwyrm is insulting because there will be new gear in Heavensward.
New expansion, new stuff.
Except you don't farm dreadwyrm stuff expecting it to last long. The relic quest on the other hand is all about future investment, it has always been lower in ilvl than the endgame raid weapons, so the only point of the relic weapon in the first place was this long term goal component. Now, you take this and trash it by resetting absolutely everything relic quest users have done in hundreds (maybe even thousands) of hours including the secondary stat customization from the Novus questline and all you are left with is the novelty of having a legendary useless weapon.I have a feeling half of those people asking this kind of questions are new to MMORPGs. Agree with this. You put in the time to have 'the best' for the given time frame. Well MMOs(good ones anyways) aren't completely static and will change over time. New items will be introduced to replace the old; including 'the best' items.I have a feeling half of those people asking this kind of questions are new to MMORPGs. I started my first relic weapon with this concept in mind as it has been this way in other MMOs i have played. And having a full zeta and soon to be second before HW hits, i'm fine with current relics being surpassed in the future.
Vertical progression done the way it is in FFXIV is preferable to the 'side-grade' gearing scheme i've seen elsewhere-in particular SE's own FFXI.
Yeah, you know that gear is going to become obsolete, but by the same token gear is relatively easy to get in a system like FFXIV's. In XI, there were BiS pieces that lasted from early exp point leveling all the way to EG and beyond in some cases. But the acquisition of those pieces was quite difficult.
For me personally, barring a combination of the two gear acquisition schemes, i'd go vertical progression anytime i was given a choice. Gearing up is so much easier and more time can be spent elsewhere in the game doing things as opposed to gearing up to in able to do things.
It was BiS multiple times, and when it wasn't it was still the 2nd best weapon in the game. That was the reward for keeping up with it.Except you don't farm dreadwyrm stuff expecting it to last long. If you've been waiting this whole time for a return on investment instead of using it as a BiS, then that's your own fault.
When in doubt, assume sarcasm
You only now worked out that the legendary weapons aren't all that legendary? I don't expect anything special about the Heavensward relics either. Just another novelty toy which looks different but is otherwise functionally identical to every other sword, bow or staff.
It's not "safe" to assume anything. From the wording SE gave us, it's possible that the only "consideration" current relic holders will be given is that they're given an in-game T-shirt with the words "I built a Zeta and all I got was this lousy T-shirt" written on it.Have they said what's gonna happen to the secondary stats of our relic weapons?
Is it safe to assume our customized secondary stats (from the Novus questline) will carry over onto the next relic quests? If so...this brings me to another question...what secondary stats will the relic quests from those who start the relic in Heavensward have? Fixed? Or will they be able to customize them either?
I'd be pretty pissed if after all the gil sink from the Novus quest my relic weapon goes back to having fixed secondary stats in HW.
Personally, I'll be quite surprised if the new relic has any kind of variable stat system, and even more surprised if our current relic is able to transfer its stats to the new weapon. I'm not expecting any stats to transfer.
What if the first quest for the new relic start with materia meldings and those with the Zeta can skip it with copy/paste their materias from the Zeta to the new relic?
it doesn't have to be the first quest but as long as it's that part of the quest, most people should be satisfied.
Everything in regards to Zeta weapons for 3.0 is pure speculation, they have not given any real information, just a handful of vague comments in various interviews. I would love to see something good happen with them personally, but given that they aren't boasting about it I kind of think they're planning to give zeta owners the shaft, hopefully I'm wrong.
