Again, ammo aside, I'm referring to how he modified his arm with various gadgets and not just guns. In addition to various guns and cannons, he had drills, chainsaws, hooks designed for ripping, all kinds of stuff. This puts him closest to the one true original Machinist in the series, Edgar, than to anyone else. My opinion.
Content too hard? Too much rng? Too much effort for the item you want?

The gadgets pretty much were used for one thing: beating on things or shooting them.
I'm not actually trying to rain on your parade, but I hope people realize machinist itself is literally Edgar, and he was very very un-gun focused.
Nor was he even "craft stuff for yourself" focused.
He just kinda threw contraptions at people. They did many many different things. Really no other character is similar at all.

but.. but... mustadio ;-;

Heh, Mustadio was just a dude with a gun though ._.
He didn't have Edgar's TOOL TIME SPECACULAR

I believe Mustadio is the first one called Engineer.
Also our engineer is just a dude with a gun in FFXIV (turret drone thrown in for flair).

Yes but maybe we have tool time =( Otherwise he's just a man with a gun.

I could swear Mustadio was also called "Machinist." Whereas, I really wanna say the first "Engineer" was Cid Pollendina from FFIV.

They can also set traps on the boss
