Would like more opinions on this. (Dragoon Rotation)

    http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/67805...eborn/71917881

In that thread, the topic creator argues that outside of content where every single point of DPS will make or break a run, it could be more beneficial to use a slightly suboptimal rotation.

He posits that running through your 8 skills ad infinitum is 60 less potency per minute than the standard rotation. However, at the cost of that 60 ppm, you give yourself more leeway as far as CT and Phb uptime goes. It is also easier to keep track of, allowing you to concentrate more on mechanics while still executing your rotation. Finally, there pretty much doesn't exist a fight where you will be able to maintain 100% uptime on CT, Phb, Dis, and HT. While the standard rotation is good on training dummies, his modified rotation could be seen as more practical.

What are your opinions on this? Please try to see past the manner in which he responds to others, because I think he might have a solid point.

I saw this post too. My first reaction was just "NO NO NO BAD BAD BAD", but I really couldn't point to any TRULY legitimate reason not to use the dumbed down rotation. That being said, part of what makes the dragoon job appealing/fun in my eyes is the "complexity" of the rotation, and dumbing it down to this extent significantly detracts from the fun factor/challenge, whether you're trying to maximize DPS or not.

Title of the linked topic: There's almost no point to using an optimal rotation unless you're raiding.

I can't even bring myself to read the rest, sorry.

Except it ends up being a lot bigger of a hit because you'll be overwriting buffed Chaos Thrusts with unbuffed. Changing that 60 potency loss to 102 potency lost.

After a round of napkin math, my dummy DPS dropped by ~6.5% thanks to the simple rotation. Quite a bit higher than what the OP stated.

If the op of that post even remotely thought it was viable he would have brought the idea up in the, Dragoons: A Rotation Reborn thread. Hes just lazy and attempts to use bad math to justify his position.

Well, not for an MMO. For FFT, FFX, FFXII, SO2, SO3, Disgaea. . .all good guides.

If I'm to understand the link, it basically says to do CT > FT > CT > FT

My opinion? You're taking already the easiest melee class, with a very simple rotation, and dumbing it down for no gain. I'd argue it's not even easier, you have a whole lot of time to be able to tell if you're going to do a 123 or a 456 next rotation if it's not somehow muscle memory after a few minutes of practicing it, and it's not like pressing one combination is any harder than the other.

We've been playing with level 50 rotation DRG for nearing on 2 years now. I would expect at this time people would be advocating smarter, more efficient ways of attacking, like the "How to train your DRG" guide which nitpicks on how to get better rather than focus on making this class dumber.

Topics like that give anyone who doesn't like try-harding an even worse reputation than they have.
