If I remember right, Yoshi actually mentioned that they didn't want those sorts of gear options to be a thing in XIV, because of how the community treated it in XI and how it made certain gear pieces "must haves."
I've heard something similar, but would still like to see it at some point. The current format for item stats is kind of boring and makes stuff like item lore meaningless fluff. (almost)
And I'd like to see it stay that way. While adding lore to gear would be nice (and has been considered, they've mentioned), giving gear more buffs just to make them more interesting or so that they can give an interesting backstory to a particular piece of gear is superfluous at best, and automatically makes that singular piece of gear more necessary for a particular job, lessening the uniqueness of that item. The way gear currently works now is just fine, and while I wouldn't mind seeing lore added to gear items, changing the way gear stats work is a bad idea, in my opinion.
