It's very easy not to pull hate even if you significantly outgear the MT, people just can't keep their pants on. If you've got enough gear to pull that much hate, though, you should have no problem keeping aggro as MT and not letting an aggro fight occur.
Forgive me for my improper wording, it was not in the middle when I picked it up, it was a way of saying "away from comets". Iron Giant has aggro on someone as soon as it spawns, so I use provoke on it to have it on me before it starts moving, and lock in aggro with Unchained + Tomahawk. My positioning was fine, and everything was going smoothly until he pulled. Also did you read the rest of the post? He wiped the raid, twice.If you voked it out of the middle it was already running around since it spawns near the wall. It was running around loose and is going to kill dps/healers. The tank who picked it up was probably trying to keep it off the squishier party members because you didn't pick it up fast enough. That isn't a tank fighting you for aggro, that is a tank doing his job trying to save the run.
You don't have to provoke it, but if dps attack it before I can tomahawk it, problems can arise. I just like to have it run towards me than anyone else.You shouldn't need to use provoke on an add pull unless a whm is geared much higher than you and has Medica II up and casting Medica/Cure II 10 seconds into the fight.
Also, IG blows up meteors without being pointed at them, and they do a nice AoE damage to anyone standing by them. If he's still alive when KB is doing his meteor, that is 100% dps at fault.
Yes your right about his shooting attack, but his cleaving attack does far more damage to a comet. Running behind a comet with IG still up can instantly destroy it.
Provoke will only give you +1 over the dps so they'll take it back immediately with their next attack. Best thing is to prep Skull Sunder or Steel Cyclone and hit it with that. You'll gain far more aggro than with tomahawk. If you buff your combo no one will be able to grab it off you.

Exactly ^^
You can hit nearly every add in the game with a prepped skull sunder/butcher's block. Provoke is a good tool but there are things it does well and things it doesn't.
That said, there are a lot of trolls in the towers. Wear some str gear, then it won't matter how many times they try to provoke off you![]()
Yep. Learning how to gain "snap hate" reliably is an important skill every tank should have. If you can't do that, you're a mediocre tank at best, regardless of your other merits.

The only time I enter the Crystal Tower raids anymore is to help friends and FC members and 9 times out of 10 I far outgear both of the other tanks and usually neither one has half a brain between them and think that them attacking the boss in full fending gear with their tank stance on is actually doing something while the adds rush around smacking people. This means I end up tanking both the boss AND the adds just so that the 6 healers in the alliance don't get their faces eaten.{Fracture}/{Riot Blade}

Also, on the off chance that I do end up with a half decent tank who insists on trying to MT, why should I gimp my damage output when I can hold aggro far better without my tank stance (on both WAR and PLD) than they can with theirs on AND do more damage than half the DPS in the alliance at the same time?
Being a newer tank in 2.0, I don't really understand why the fight for MT exist. I like OTing, grabbing the adds makes me feel like i'm actually doing something to contribute.
See, that's how it should be. There should be no fighting. But the problem is everyone wants to MT, even those that aren't geared enough to hold aggro against whoever else is in there tanking. So rather than just grab the adds they sit there like bumps doing nothing.
To be honest, I usually prefer to OT. I generally find in CT that tanks are stupidly lazy about picking up adds. Most are idiots that just stay on the main mob and go "Dur. I are dps. I smash the things!" My policy is, if there's a job I can't trust other people to do, I'd better do it myself.
