Feedback: Levelling EXP for secondary Jobs

    Hi,

This is my first time posting in here so I hope this is the right area for it. Anyway on topic!
Love the FF franchise across all platforms and games. So I decided to give FF14: ARR a go when it was re-released. I have played a few MMO's WOW etc (don't hold it against me!) and when I started playing FF14 I enjoyed it immensely. The story, the graphics and the game play. The one thing that ultimately lead to me suspending my subscription after 5 months of playing, was how hard and grindy it was to level a second job. I work full time and all that so get on when I can. I didn't mind the grind for the first job as it had the main story arc to keep you invested in the story as you go along. I also think the relic weapon (zodiac weapon) grind is great for people who want to invest in getting the epic reward. What i don't think is great is putting secondary jobs behind a massive level grind (no quests and only 99 allowances for leves).

I recently suspended my WOW subscription as it had lost a lot of what kept me interested this expansion and after playing it on and off for a few years I needed a break. So I returned to FF14 after about a year off and was pleasantly surprised with all the additions over the patches. Seriously and epic amount of work has gone into each patch! Loved new main quest lines and trials etc. I also noticed that there was a 50% buff in Exp if you had a level 50 Job already which is a good start, however I went and tried to level another job and still spending hours grinding fates (literally so bored - mount up, run to fate, spam kill and mount up again over and over). If you have no Leve allowances you are basically stuffed and have to do fates or sit and wait for a dungeon to pop.

This doesn't make for enticing game play and literally was putting me to sleep in my seat. If fates gave double the Exp they do it would at least get rid of having to do the same fates 20-30 times to get a level. You usually then have to do those same fates for 4 or 5 levels. Maybe have Daily quest hubs with no allowances but a limited number of quests for those who don't have any allowances. It seems silly to have to wait 3 - 4 days to get allowances back to try and gain a few levels. These sort of things I would understand at the release of the game or expansion to gate progress and stop people churning through the game too fast. However at this point in the production cycle it just seems like it is stopping people getting a second or third job, unless they have 8 hours a day to grind fates. It just seems like the levelling process is a bit broken once you finish the main quest line. Maybe I am missing something?!

I don't mind a grind or two - crafting jobs aren't too bad because you have little goals as you progress. Also currently working on my zodiac weapon which is a big grind, but I don't think levelling a second battle job should be such a chore. Ultimately something needs to fill the gaps for the main quests: either increase the EXP gain rate or EXP from Fates or remove allowances form battlecraft leves or introduce daily quest hubs that are unlocked by your first level 50 during main quest. Something, anything but make me grind fates for hours and hours and hours all it does is burn me out in the limited time a day I have to play this game.

    Thanks!

Just a tip, you can bypass the character limit in a post if you edit in piece by piece .

I despise the fate/dungeon grind on alts as well but I really can't see how any developer can make enough quests to level all the jobs we have going on. So grind it is lol.

Hopefully they'll reduce the exp required for 1-50 with Heavensward. I think other MMOs typically do that. Probably to keep the "time to endgame" for a completely fresh character from growing too much with every expansion.

    - Use cheap food for +3% exp per kill.
    - Use an FC buff to increase XP per kill.
    - Spend GC Seals on Grand Company Tomes for massive exp boosts
    - Make sure to log out in a Sanctuary for a Rested Bonus
    - Complete your Hunting Log as early as possible

low level roulette, leves, doing each guildhest as they unlock (a lot of people don't know they give you really good first time exp on every new class you level and take almost no time), dungeons, and do your hunting log as you go.

not much reason to do fates except to catch up a bit or clear the gap to your next leveling milestone. they are really one of the most inefficient ways to level, and one of the most boring. I only used 120 leves or so 1-50, never really had to wait on them. most of them were spent in coerthas because i didn't wanna do stone vigil before DD first pull/donut plains leves. don't think i did any dungeon more than 3 times bar AV first room.

15-50 took about half a week going at a very casual pace. my advice is not to grind away at it when your resources go dry, do something else for a bit and let your leves replenish. it'll save you a headache if you can manage it.

hopefully they come up with something a bit more enjoyable for exp 50-60.
