Well at least I am not alone with the problem, I will put up what I have tried here and maybe it can help you even if it has done nothing to me.
  • Tried renaming the relative character folders in documents > my games > ffxiv folder
  • Deleted those folders.
  • Deleted the whole folder in my documents.
  • Open FFXIV.cfg in NotePad and change UPnP 1 to UPnP 0
  • Done a ipconfig /renew in the Command Prompt
  • Run any update that I can think of and reinstalled video/audio drivers.

What I really want to do is try to log onto another computer and see if I can log onto my characters there. Sadly I do not have another computer that can run the game and the only people I know who play it plays in another country so that is not an option. I guess I will just have to try and contact chat support later and hope that the person I get is better then the one I talked to yesterday and actually wait for me to confirm that the solution works before leaving the chat.
