Stop reading tin foil websites and stick to the official Microsoft sources. Windows 10 is a free upgrade for only 1 year from the day it will start to those who own a legal W8/8.1/7 copies. All the rest must pay a full price of the OS as always.

Even people who pirated Win7 or Win8 can get the free upgrade. They just won't have a "genuine" license.

We are upgrading all qualified PCs, genuine and non-genuine, to Windows 10...even though pirates will be able to auto-upgrade to Windows 10, the version they get will still be considered unlicensed.

Anyone with a qualified device can upgrade to Windows 10, including those with pirated copies of Windows.

Actually, this information is outdated and Microsoft have since clarified that non-genuine Windows users will not be entitled to the free upgrade, but instead can opt to pay for the update to Windows 10, retaining all of their information and files from their non-genuine version of Windows.
