From what it looks like now. WAR will be the damage tank, PLD the defensive and DRK the magic tank. Everyone will work better in some situation. Though I have the feeling that even if DRK will be popular for the dark factor WAR will be the first choice due to the DPS output.

Since DRK can use both stances as long as it has MP, it's damage output as a MT may be pretty high too, by "removing" the damage penalty.

The changes to current jobs and what the new ones have is a thin mask to even up all jobs. Look at smn it is getting a burst to help even it up, sch is getting direct healing and aoe healing, ast is getting direct and shields. Drk is just going to be a different take on war and pld is getting a dps boost to even it out with both. Basically they are trying to make any job work in a raid spot

I think that a good tank is more than just his class. I would rather have a good Warrior than a mediocre Dark Knight. As long as all the tank classes can do the job, you should always pick the best players rather than the best class.

No, that doesn't mean that there should be bad class balance or design. And in serious situations, the "best" players will almost always pick the "best" class for the job. Why do you think everyone always have the PLD main tank? If you're in a serious group, especially those aiming to be first to clear contents, and you're a WAR, you're NEVER EVER gonna be main tanking until the content becomes a joke for your group, period.

There are fights like Savage/Normal 6, Savage 9, T12, and various EX primals where there is no "MT".

Having a shield and Hallowed doesn't always constitute best MT. WAR does higher DPS in tank stance than PLD and that can be extremely important in a lot of fights.
