I recently started playing and picked a Thaumaturge, how ever I was wondering if there's certain things I should know like if there are class rotations or companion classes to when I can level up other classes.

You'll need to level up archer a bit (to at least 15, but slightly higher for the cross class ability 'quelling strikes') to later take on the black mage job. Your rotation sort of changes a bit when you get new abilities and it's not too difficult to work out. Mostly it consists of spending as much time as you can casting fire with as little time as possible recovering mp/ casting blizzard. Once you get the thundercloud trait (level 24 maybe?) you'll want to keep thunder up on bosses since the additional effect that could happen is pretty potent.
Welcome to XIV Tlania~!
I've only got a low level Thaumaturge so I'm not that great of an expert on them, so I can't really help much with rotations and all that. However, pay attention to your Astral Fire and Umbral Ice buffs. Astral Fire will give you increased DPS when using Fire skills so that should be your main damage skill with the buff up, with you changing to Umbral Ice when you need MP. Also read above.
In regards to leveling, as you level you should do your class quests for Thaumaturge and at level 30, if you did them all, you can unlock Black Mage. To unlock the Black Mage quest, you also need a level 15 Archer. You can level that up once you hit 30 THM and you should be fine until level 50. Once you hit 50 or a bit later like after 40, you can start leveling up Arcanist to level 34 and Archer to 34 for all your cross class abilities as a Black Mage.
I'm still a beginner so I'm not that great at giving advice but I hope this helps.
Until you get Fire 3 and Blizzard 3 you will just keep Thunder up and cast Fire 1 until out of MP, then cast Transpose.
Cool thanks for the tips guys. =)
General mindset, it's like what Nutz said.
Low-level gameplay, it's like what Judge_Xero said.
Low-level dungeons, keep in mind that you can Sleep most stuff if things get too hairy for your tank and/or healer to keep up with.
Lv.50 dungeons, for some reason you can't rely on Sleep anymore. But at Lv.50, you're also the most amazing AoE DPS job.
Fire2 is better to use than Fire1 once you're faced with a mob of 3+, but not all tanks will know how to handle holding aggro on that many targets. So use Sleep or Quelling Strikes, or just focus on single targets with Fire1, at your discretion.
Once you get both Blizz3 and Fire3 in your late 30's, it feels amazing because you spend almost no time during Umbral (ice/MPregen buff) anymore.
Fire3 > Fire1 until you have around 300 MP left > Blizz3 > Thunder1 or 2 > Fire3 > repeat
You don't even cast Blizz1 anymore unless you have a specific reason to, like Heavy.
Lv.50, you get Flare and become magically delicious. Your AoE rotation changes to something like this:
Fire3 > Fire2 as long as you have at least 300 MP left > Flare > Transpose and wait for a tick of MP to come back > Fire3 > repeat
And if you have a mob you really want to destroy fast, then after that Flare, you use Convert to get some MP back, and then Swiftcast-Flare again. (Then you Transpose.) This is generally called double-Flare'ing.
There are also BLMs who save up MP potions for the same idea, whether to make a triple-Flare, or double-Flare while Convert is unavailable.
Good to know Synesthetic, also I'll make sure to do the rank switching for some tanks. Used to tank in WOW so always like to make sure they're lives as least stressful as possible. I take it I dump all bonus points into Intellect btw? As a side note I'm loving the few robe designs I've seen so far in this game.
Also trust me when i say this both Quelling and Raging Strikes from Archer are a must have for blm.
Quelling at minimum because you will see how easy it is to get agro
Arcanist you can level up to get Virus and Eye for an Eye but they are not used vary often, especially if the healer(s) are scholars
For leveling, the Arcanist skill Physick (level 4) is darned nice to have out there all by your lonesome. When you get higher, https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/...DVkM1E#gid=124 is a great little resource.
