    No new SMNs for SMN?

    Am I the only one who finds this... disappointing to say the least, the whole point of the class Should be the summon, not the actions of the summoner.

    What I REALLY want for the class is, the FF11 summoner without the mp drain for keeping it out, that's what I really hopped for.

    I'll try the new summoner's abilities before complaining about no new summon (then again I do want to get new summons and the return of elemental affinities for the fights...). I always wanted to get "stances" instead of a pet (one for each summon") which would modify the main abilities of the summoner to this stance elemental affinity while gaining stacks to use for a big summoning attack. So far it seems they are kinda doing something similar (not as much as I wanted...) but I'll wait to have tried it before saying if I'm happy with this or not ^^.

    only dragoons get buff every patch. SE needs to give other jobs some love.

    I am actually looking forward to the new ability's smn is getting. Besides what's the use of getting more egi that people who play smn like myself are probably never going to use. I think se learned its lesson that more egi is not what's needed in this game. Look at what's happening now with smn the majority of smn don't even use 2 of the 3 egi we already have. It's usually garuda and nothing else. I never see anyone not even myself use ifrit. Titan is usually only used while playing solo or if the tank died. So yah what's the point with more egi.

    While smn is kinda fun within the context of XIV. I agree with the OP, I wanted more of a traditional SMN from FF, not this dot hybrid. I cant think of a single FF game where smn plays even close to how it does in XIV. I certainly dont think of poisons and slow death when I think of classic FF summoner. But at this point Ive accepted how the job is and given up hope of something more akin to FFXI. Ill settle for pet glamour as long as they look decent.

    I actually don't mind the buffs to drg, drg was my main in ff11 I just miss our wyvern. I'd want to use it as a flying mount in heaven'sward.

    Oh I've pretty much accepted the roll of dot of doom to... just I want to feel like a smner. won't happen, but it would be nice.

    You want to play /WHM?

    They kind of ran themselves into a corner with SMN in FFXIV because they can only add so many summons that actually do different things. So it's not surprising that they want to give us "glamour" egis instead. But if they go this route, they need to make them actually look better (better not bigger).

    I don't really have a problem that SMN revolves around DoTs, and that they actually have stuff to do besides giving commands to their summon.

    Everyone has a right to their own opinions and feelings, so sorry you are disappointed at the changes/additions being made to SMN in a few weeks when we can actually play with them and see how they work.

    Me personally, i think i'm gonna get a big kick out of exploring a more mystical side to the job. Letting a ridiculously powerful deity who single-handedly devastated the vast majority of a continent in one go, use my body as an avatar on a regular basis is-let's be real-pretty fricken badass in theory. Dying to try it out.

    As for SMN from FFXI...I loved that job, but it was deeply flawed for years. And arguably, one of the things that iteration of SMN needed above everything else was something for the actual SMN to have something to do that was intrinsically part of the job and not from a subjob or dependent on having a summon out. Ironically, FFXIV's SMN goes the other way and is actually a much more solid job for it. And it can only improve from here.
