Yes quests are part of the mmorpg experience I understand that but what do you think is gonna happen when all these quests pile up that are required to unlock all that content? Let's just say idk 5 years from now you have someone new pick up the game and now they have to find and complete these quests. Ok so now they have maybe 50-100 quests they'll end up having to do which involve clearing dungeons/trials in the DF with what playerbase? Everyone who is actively playing the game then is well past all that old content and you can't say DF is the answer because throwing all the dungeons/trials into the same queue is really not gonna fix the problem. Yes this is all hypothetical and maybe even blown out example but you get the idea.

I HIGHLY doubt anyone who got through the main scenario of this game would have kept playing it if they had no investment in the storyline. It's one of this game's strong points, and it's certainly stronger than the vast majority of MMO plots out there.

I think their remark was meant more in the "why do you keep playing this game" sense. Then again, the poster it was intended for probably doesn't even know if the story is good or not, since they've clearly been skipping all the cutscenes. Or at least all since early on when the story hadn't had time to really start and it was mostly introductory material......

I don't think a lot of people play this game for the story ONLY, you see this game has other things like battles, and crafting, and games in gold saucer.
if this was a single player game I wouldn't play it because I play rpgs for their stories. But MMOrpgs has a lot more to offer so the story is just a time sink to me.

I don't think people play this game only for story but there are quite a few for who the story is very important and can be more important than aspects of gameplay, crafting and games in the gold saucer. Different people get different things out of it. I know while I do enjoy the other aspects of this game, if its story hadn't hooked me I probably would be a lot less interested in it.

I'm not sayin there arent people who prefers the story to other parts of the game. It was more of a reply to the comment "Just saying if you think this games story is mediocre. Then why even play this game to begin with" assuming people only play mmorpgs for the story

No, many end game raiders actually enjoyed the story progressing through the three coils. It's when it is time to repeat it numerous times for tomes or gear that wanting to get through it fast is the thing, as it old content then. other words, farming run. To be fair, you cant expect someone to want to sit through the same cutscenes every time after numerous runs.
