    Uh hi. Red Mage is the thing you're after it sounds like! I wrote one up just like everyone and their mother actually, somewhere on the forums(http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...8Concept%21%29 shameless plug). There'd really be no problem making a close range Disciple of Magic class, since they'd generally use the same or similar gear in the first place. Though the one I wrote up is meant to be a very frantic close-to-mid range fighter based on versatility, it falls into a DPS role easily enough, and from what I could do I had no problems wedging it into lore or making it work mechanically. Red Mages even have rapiers as a series-iconic weapon for them.

    Honestly to me it seems like they'd be a lot easier to implement than everyone makes it out to be. Summoners work fine without dropping Bahamut on a dungeon boss's face. Don't see why red mages can't just have weak/cross-classed heals like summoner and black mage already do.

    Yoshi-P is aware that both RDM and BLU (even harder to implement in FFXIV) are VERY popular (if not the MOST requested) and IIRC Yoshi-P also said that he would be adding these jobs to FFXIV for this reason, and I'll be honest these are the 2 jobs I'm looking forward to and have wanted to play in FFXIV since even 1.0 and I'm a bit tired of waiting. The instant Yohsi-P says he isn't or can't implement these 2 jobs or they end up being pathetic representation of versatility as SMN is then I'm done with this game.

    Shameless plug indeed, lol. Guess I should join your plug, since I helped a little. I'd plug mine but this is about a DPS RDM, and mine is a tank, so no go, lol.

    I like helping people with their Job ideas, it's fun to help them visuallize and create the job they'd like to play most. Plus I make my own too, I'll post them eventually.

    Red Mage is the obvious choice with Blue Mage being a close second.

    They could probably do Runefencer too, although GS is already being used by dark. Outside of the box they could do Geomancer.

    When we see Red Mage I have a feeling people are gonna be disappointed though. People enjoyed Red Mage in XI for its utility and solo ability. Both of which are almost non consequential in this game framework. I'd love to see it as a melee DPS though. Would be fun to see them work chainspell as a lvl 60 ability.

    I'd personally take BLU, but seeing how we gain our skills currently, I think it would take away from that. That and Blu almost always has some of the most powerful spells in every Final Fantasy...

    BLU could actually work since you get your abilities after the job quests. Devs could make it so you face a given mob for the explicit purpose of copying its skill. Say, a golem buffing itself with Mighty Guard, a Sylph using White Wind or a Morbol with Bad Breath, that way you get the Lore reason to have the skill. But maybe someone's thought of that already and how it could/couldn't work...

    I'd like Red mage, finish up the original Six, Though in retrospect from earlier comments, I wouldn't mind a Mystic Knight as an MP based Melee fighter. Be a pain substituting a weapon in for using swords of some type ((Though I'd be partial to dual wielding swords and having an attack with eight slashes.)) It'd probably be a Disciple of War though, where RDM can fit in as a Disciple of Magic.

    RDM and BLU definitely fit the bill, but I doubt they will have cast times except maybe on aoe spells. It will be too hard to hit anything that moves even slightly because your cone of vision is so small.

    I'd love it, though. While I like playing "regular" casters, the idea of a melee caster or "battle mage" appeals to me as well as an alternative to regular melees.

    I think it sounds weird to most people, but I actually like being limited by cast times, it adds a certain challenge to movement.
    Of course, too much is also too much, and I hate BLM as a result. But if they balance it nicely, a melee caster could be a lot of fun.
