Which was a huge mistake on S.E's part

In world of warcraft, I petitioned blizzard for 2 years straight for a character name. After 2 years they FINALLY opened up the name to me as the player was inactive for a year. I got the name and have it.

The same should be done with with FC Names, character names, and homes. Things like this that are limited should be for PAYING SUBSCRIBERS only!

If someone is paying but playing on another server, SE should email these people to keep their characters and homes active by logging into them at least once every couple of months.

Totally going out of their way to scrap an idea that would keep limited things to paying people only was a very bad move on S.E.'s part.

I don't think it won't help at all.
So now no one can get a new house while if they removed houses from people who were inactive for example for 3 months it is possible that there would be atleast 100 free houses. It is not good solution, there would still be thousands of people without houses, but it would be atleast a small step towards working housing. Still better than doing nothing.

    This.

Another good idea would be if there's an FC and a leader or a high ranking member has a house, they can have the option of opening it up in an FC-Like environment or a "safe house" if you will that gives them the same perks and benefits and FC house can offer. Something like this would solve a LOT of issues for wayward FCs that otherwise cannot find or afford their own housing. I want to be able to share my house with my friends and small FC to the best of its ability.

...that and I am tired of being alone in my home!

If you are paying your monthly subscription, you should be able to keep your house no matter how long between log-in's. However, if you do not keep your game subscription current there should be a grace period (say six months) before the house is forfeited.

IMHO were you to lose the house, the permit and building cost should be refunded and all items contained should be put in a special storage that would allow you to sell them when you come back (if you are unable to find a new plot to build).

Bumping this thread for visibility, since housing reclaim was recently announced.

This is not a good idea, please see original post. It will not solve the problem nor satisfy the masses, it just punishes innocent people who may be on temporary leave due to RL.

It's not cut and dry. The devs themselves said that THEY would be investigating to determine which properties qualified as "Abandoned" which means that it's not as simple as "If you don't log in at least once a month you're evicted" or "If your Subscription lapses more than a month, you're evicted.".

It'll likely be determined on a case by case basis by the GM Task Force. Ya know, the same guys who investigate RMT, Harassment, and ToS Violations.

This isn't real life. This is a video game. It's pretty crappy to take something away from a player in a video game just because they haven't logged in for a while, especially when they invested so much money in the first place.

SE needs to actually fix the fundamental design flaw in their housing, rather than punish players for SE's own mistakes.

You're living in a fantasy world if you think they're going to scrap everything they've done currently. It's just not going to happen. They'll keep moving forward occasionally adding wards and doing evictions (decay timers most likely). I have both an FC house and a personal house and I personally welcome this change; I don't see it as a punishment at all. What gives inactive players more rights to a limited server resource than active players? The short answer... nothing. There are far to many abandoned houses just sitting in the wards and it makes 0 sense for them to not allow current players to take advantage of those inactive plots from a business perspective.

They are going to be implementing house sharing which, I think, will help a great deal. Players who don't own property will still be able to take advantage of property perks. I plan to put a notice on my placard that says that I'm willing to share the garden etc. of my personal house if someone needs it when it's implemented.

So what? Should the world stop because others aren't doing so well. No that's not how the world works if they had to unsub for some reason that's their problem. The people with subs are being punished because these people are inactive with houses.

They can't just keep adding new wards it cost money and they aren't getting any from people with a plot and arent subbed if you ask me it's a good business decision.

If people aren't here, they aren't here and deserve nothing. Screw the T-ball League of Life and Equality between the hardworkers vs lazy millennial crap. Why is this even a discussion. Dead houses are like tombstones... and some of us are now living in a cemetery because of so many dead houses/plots. Why should we be penalized with dead neighborhoods? For people that aren't even around and haven't been for 8-20 months now? Why are people even defending those that don't even have a subscription. Those of us that are paying money want neighbors and a live community, those people paying a subscription want to buy a house and have neighbors... why are people even considering not giving these people this in favor of 'protecting' those that aren't paying for anything? They aren't even playing any more!

Quit being 'white knights', you dummies. You're only shooting yourselves and your fellow sub'd ARR peers in the foot.
