MAKE IT HAPPEN!

They need to implement swimming animations before I think this will happen. Was there any update if this will happen?

Swimming animations can easily be included for the sole use in a Blitzball arena. Remember that, with 3.0, 3-dimensional movement is a thing now. The same control functions can easily be translated for use in water since both are fluid environments (air is just less dense = faster movement). All one would need is just modified animations since all the physics are already done. Even if it's not overworld swimming, it's not out of the realm of possibility for a Gold Saucer sport since SE did all the work for 3D movement to be included in Heavensward.

They may already have swimming animations, Yoshi said that for 3.0 they were going back and forth on whether they should add flying or swimming, but ultimately decided to go with flying. Who's to say though how far they took the swimming idea before they shelved it.
I saw "Lightning collaboration" in that article and all my contained hype started to very quickly evaporate for some reason...
anyway BLITZBALL YEAH
Ew, I really hope not...

Next we need to add a job called a brawler... Basically Wakka. Someone who will use their balls. Quiet literally....
