"Screenshot Failed"

I'm not sure what is causing his, but every time I try to take a screenshot I get the in-game message in red - "Screenshot Failed".

I checked my game directory ("C:\Users\MYNAME\Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY XIV - A Realm Reborn\screenshots") to make sure my screenshot folder is actually there, which it is, but the folder is empty, no screenshots inside.

I don't believe I am running any 3rd party program either, which I've read might interfere with taking screenshots.

Can anybody help, please?

I'm using the Alienware Alpha, Windows 8.1.

Have you tried opening paint and trying to paste just to see if there is in fact a shot taken but for some reason its not showing up in the folder?

Yeah, it shows up in Paint.

I have had this happen to me just recently.
Problem: SS failed.
Fix: Clearing up more HDD space.

I had to delete things off of my HDD to make room for more SSs. I'm not sure how much you have space-wise for your HDD, but take a look at that maybe?

You're getting the screenshot, just failing to write it to the disk. This could have any number of causes. You could be out of space, as suggested. You could not have write permission to the directory (assuming you're not running the game with Administrator privileges). You could be suffering disk errors, which is unlikely but possible, and would be a sign that your disk might be about to fail entirely.

I got this when there were a lot of files (not thousands, but a hundred or so) in the screenshot folder. Moving them to a sub folder fixed it for me.

I've finally found out what's causing this - it turns out the game client's directory for saving screenshots is a bit different than the actual directory on my PC ("C:\Users\Users\Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY XIV - A Realm Reborn\screenshots" vs "C:\Users\MYNAME\Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY XIV - A Realm Reborn\screenshots").

Not sure why it's like that by default, but once I've matched up the directories I can now save screenshots again!

Glad you are able to get SSs now, Asdamine! I am always taking pics when I get eaten and am inside of Cerberus' stomach in World of Darkness. lol
