It would be nice if for no other reason than to send my retainers out on more ventures while I'm far away from home.

I have to say I would disagree with this kind of request. WoW has something like this with their armory. Which, someone can correct me if I am wrong, but that has been hacked in the past and it effected the players. Players lost thousands of gold because of it. Now imagine if it happened with FFXIV it could be a mess. Not to mention rmt and bots. I feel that this kind of app, while nice written down, would only add fuel to the situation.
Edit: Here we go about that hacking/bug WoW had that I mentioned:

While the hacking did happen, it happened in 2013 (A lifetime away in terms of software security advances). Not to say it couldn't happen here, but it'd be up to SQE to make sure there wasn't an exploit that could allow it to happen; could be something as simple as needing to use your OTP to log in to that as well.I have to say I would disagree with this kind of request. I do wish that some people would stop being so paranoid though; Sometimes i think people want security so tight that the only way to make it more secure is to block even the customers from getting into the game.
Can things happen? Of course. Will things happen? Maybe. Are there ways to put things into place and have adequate security that the service is safe? Absolutely.

This would be a dream come true for me. I live on the MB and sending out all my retainers on quick ventures. Before Shirogane I always kept my PS Vita with me at work to make sure I was always on top of MB prices and getting as much quick ventures in as possible to load up on gil for a house. I go home every once and awhile just to send out retainers and update prices of what I am selling if I do not have Vita on hand. If I could do this on my phone, I could much easier do all of this. Or some way with a network connection to check and adjust prcies and send out quick ventures. PC or IOS would be ideal.

That's considerably easier said than done. It sounds great on paper, but the fact we have to have security patches at all demonstrates at how impossible a task this is. I'm not talking about just SE either, operating systems, web browsers, routers, mobile devices... we live in a world where updates are continually made available to fix security problems that weren't originally known about.
Good. If there was a possible issue with my account, I'd rather they blocked everyone from it, including me, until it could be resolved/deemed safe again. I've personally put way too much effort in over the last 4 years to not be paranoid.
I really hope SE risk assessment is better than going ahead with something if "maybe" is a known possibility.
You mean SE doing refunding/reversing/rolling back accounts when a problem happens? Yes that's great, but not sure they want that much hassle.
Like everyone else I want a mobile app as well, but security has to be taken very seriously.
How about no? The undercutting is already rampant enough as it is, no point in making it even worse.

According to this interview Yoship has taken on board this kind of idea I propose some time ago. Don't know if he actually read this but I am pleased but maybe in the future this could become reality.

Fingers crossedRecently, Lodestone introduced the possibility to see a lot of things with the Retainers. Visualizations of sales made, inventories, and even the progress in an assigned task. Is this the beginning of an entirely web management (or even smartphone application) for Retainers?
Naoki Yoshida : The team is working on trying to develop an application like we don’t logging in the game but you can access to your retainers and actually control the retailers with this apps. However in order to do that, we need a lot of development cost and also the communication cost will be in core. That’s something we are working on.
It sounds good. It will help me when I can't get in front of my computer that has the game like when I m in school doing nothing or at work during my break times. The app is not a bad thing but the individual that make a bad judgment and use it addictively like ppl that wanted to try drugs for the first time didn't even check whether or not they could have inclinations to be addicted by just one dose.
I just want SE to hurry up with the replacement app. The Libra app no longer lets you log in and isn't updated with 3.0 info. Being able to sort retainers on the fly is a nice idea though
