I can almost guarantee 98% of the players are also done with raiding. Only 5% of the people were doing it before, and now pretty much no1 except the most dedicated are going to do the savage mode just so they can dye their slightly higher item level gear.

This just says to me that you're hanging with the wrong people.
My static spends less time on raiding that it seems most people spend raging over early S rank pulls or farming ponies.
My rule of good raiding is to keep it fun and positive. If it stops being fun or if people are having an "off" night, call it early and do something else. I fully believe that you can play "casually" and still progress in raid content, at least in FFXIV.

I think a lot people are going to have a hard time clearing alexander normal, it won't be face-roll easy. Hopefully it gets people to improve themselves and learn their class better. Gotta put in work to get stuff.

Cool. Sounds like you've got your gaming priorities all figured out.
As for me, I'll take gaming accomplishment over a good nights sleep any day. I don't think that's necessarily the "right" or "wrong" way to play, but I have fun while playing so I figure it's probably all good. So you can go ahead and play however makes you happy, even if that's by playing an entirely different game.
But just because you're not enjoying it doesn't mean it's broken. I like fcob. I like savage scob. And it kinda bugs me when people try to convince me that I must be enjoying the game wrong because they're not enjoying it too. Feel free to find your own path to enjoyment, but don't take mine away. That's just rude.

Oh. Then I'd probably work on that first and foremost.
Not a lot of gaming-specific problems that suck worse than only realizing after hundreds of hours that you haven't even been having fun. Just wanting to waste time having fun, but ending up wasting time not having fun is like wasted time squared.

I don't really fit in, that's all.

If you are bad at raiding/coil/whatever then just wait. Just because you can't beat it NOW doesn't mean you won't experience the story. You just won't experience it NOW.
All hard content is slowly made easier over time. There a tons of people that thought t5 was impossible. And for some at i90 it was. But a lot of those people have since cleared it via echo and 40 ilvl in gear. Same with t9. Coil will be absurdly easy in heavensward. Did you see the gameplay video? A blm had like 8k hp. That's what tanks need to beat t13 now. Tanks had like 12k.
If you can't beat something today you have 2 options:
1. Get better and beat it anyway.
2. Just wait. The longer you wait the easier it gets.
If you aren't good enough then just sit back and relax. The story isn't goin anywhere. It's not getting deleted before you beat it. Work to beat it now, or chilax and wait for it to come to you. There's no need to change anything.
You want the newest fancy pants phone? Then drop your 500$ on it. Can't afford it? Chilax. It will be 300 in 4 months, and 100 in a year. Pay the toll or do the time. This is a completely normal way deal with stuff, but people have to get over the now now now crazyness.

If there was an option to go to a raid in which objetive was solely presenting the cutscenes and the story behind the battle, then there would be no reason at all for SE to ease a battle that was meant as a challenge, you know? No echo, no killing mechaics, no nerfs.
Thats precisely the approach of Alexander's normal and hard modes SE is going to adopt.
This is the selfsame difference between ifrit nm and ifrit extreme, or even shiva hm and shiva ex. Those solely interested in the story never really need to touch the extreme mode of either, while those who care for the gain would go for the later.
Whats wrong for them to have a real viable option?

If you are under the impression that Alex NM is an obscenely simpme thing, only in place so you can get cutscenes, you are sorely mistaken. It has already stated that it is of compairable difficulty to an echoed coil...
You really think they should dedicate that many resources to nerfing the challanging content. When what you want is to essentially watch a youtube clip in game. I mean from what you described, that is pretty much what you want. You could be saving the money spent on the game and sub and just watching youtube or streams for that.
