I think OP has a point, especially for what is about to be old content no one will care about. Not now, when people are gearing, but when all the accomplishment players are plowing through the new expansion and solo quest gear is better than the drops. With the upcoming gear it won't even really be a challenge to the players that like that. It is annoying and could even detract from your social appeal to be asking for people to carry you hard in very old content. The only real reason to go is to see the cutscenes, in an old expansion that no one remembers or cares about anymore.
So, I'd support an Ozymandias mode. You can go, maybe with your chocobo, alone. As a tourist, perhaps invisible even through the empty halls of the content. As you walk through the now quiet abandoned content, when you hit the boss rooms the cutscene can play. You can then get the cutscene unlocked for your house to view and review to get attached to the plot. No loot, no fights, no achievements. Maybe a quest given by scholar's guild. Just cutscene access more reliable than youtube. And of course only for content at least one expansion out of date.

Just want to point out that 3.0 already tries to solve this need by providing two types of difficulties for Alexander raid, with the Normal difficulty using the loot system that exists for Crystal Tower now, which ensures a consistent player population in the queue.
And contents are nerfed very quickly in this game. Even if you cannot complete it this patch, by next patch with stronger gear and weaker enemies, it becomes easier and easier to see the stories.
There's a limit to how easy content can be. After all, combat is one of the core element of this game as much as story is.
“There is nothing noble in being superior to your fellow man; true nobility is being superior to your former self.”
― Ernest Hemingway
The reason players are asking for raiding content to be toned down is because only 2% of the NA player base has actual completed Final Coils which is abysmal. The Japansee player has a 10% completion rate on Final Coils because of the gaming culture. Mechanics in Coil are punishing consedering one person can wipe the entire party and finding 7 other people that won't disband after a few hiccups is another problem as well.
reaction time does matter. unless your going to sit on your rear with a stopwatch and time exactly when x boss does y attack (which i don't recommend), your probably going to time your movements to the moment you first see the cast bar, the movements of other players or the pretty AOE markers. reaction time has everything to do with it, i can't stress that enough.
you should, he makes a valid point.I didn't read the "what should be done about this" part of OPs statement because i don't think anything needs to be done, well except a little bit of practice and study on OPs part.
you did everything but in your previous post. Not trying to sit here on some high horse and say stinking casuals gitgud,
meanwhile Mr. OP is not new, far from it. team jump rope is fine and all, but that limits actual play-ability to a demographic that is skilled enough to pass it. having options for those people while still preserving the already existing content is a valid option. The only reason why i know its possible is because most of my static has already cleared (again having a majority that has clear as opposed to 5/8 who haven't) So i am in no way that top tier but it has been said time and time again that getting 7 other people who know what they are doing makes a world of difference and Titan EX is pretty much the first time all 8 people need to know whats going on and whats gonna happen next. That why the fail rate is so high... so many people who are new to the idea of "team jump rope."
oh and 303ms avarage lol... best outta 5 was 209
but seriously, fuck titan.
First of all, Story Mode Alexander is by no means "Easy". Alexander Normal will have the same difficulty as Coil, it is not meant to replace Crystal Tower. The team that is tuning Alexander Normal is the same team behind the current Coil encounters. You will not be able to faceroll it like you do with WoD. Alexander Hard will be equivalent to Savage Coil in terms of difficulty.
Secondly, I see people comparing "access to content" in terms of single player RPGs and MMORPGs. This doesn't make sense, because single player RPGs are tuned to be completed by one person. The design philosophies are completely different, you're doing an apples to oranges comparison. The reason we have such a toxic split between the casual and hardcore communities isn't because of terrible buzzwords like "welfare gear" and "elitism", it's because SE failed to provide an easier story mode Coil with no loot drops and achievements.
The lack of empathy in this thread is staggering, but not entirely surprising.
Personally I prefer the challenging content and then being rewarde with a completely epic cut scene/story.
At least for me. I don't want Mr. Evil Mcworldendingbadassington to be a complete push over. And then be thrown into a CONGRATS ON SAVING THE WORLD cut scene.
Would feel meaningless and kinda silly to me.

That's the thing a lot of people just aren't understanding though. There's a large number of players that don't get a sense of accomplishment from raiding. If all they want is story then it's not "yay, I did it!" when you finish the raid. It's "THANK GOD it's finally over." Now the optional "quest" idea shouldn't reward anything but the cutscenes to players who wish to skip. That I agree. The raid as it is should not be nerfed. It is, in fact, a raid and you're right. They should be difficult since they are the endgame content.
Now I realise there so much elitism here....
That normal player also pay the fee for this game, let them have their right.
For example WoW Raid:
LFR(Similar with DF tool) are the easiest way to complete story with trash loot.
Normal, Heroic & Mythic are require Pre-Made group (PF) and can be access by entering portal manually only.
Drop from there will be highlighted with Normal, Heroic & Mythic.
While you wear them people will notice that you're hardcore raider.
Half of the player here are casual player...
So if sub drop and game became less exited don't blame SE but blame your arrogant selfish elitism attitude.
