What is the best Deity for an Au Ra?

I'm having trouble deciding what deity I should pick for my Au Ra.
I've been reading up on them from here and it seems like the deities we have tailor mainly to the original races and not the Au Ra.

Is there a member of the 12 that an Au Ra would Worship? Or do you think the Au ra have their own Deities?

Is it possible that the Au Ra worship the same deities but call them by a different name?

Their lore says they have their own deities, the Dawn Father and Dusk Mother.
Whether these correspond to any of the Twelve or not is currently unknown, and what we'll do for patrons in character creation is also unknown right now.

The Twelve aren't actually worshipped at all in Doma. I suspect Au Ra worship any of the 12.

Interestingly the auri concept of a 'dawn father' and a 'dusk mother' as their deities of worship remind me very much of Altana and Promathia from FFXI, although ironically their roles are reversed (Altana was the Dawn goddess and Promathia the Twilight god). So the dual nature of their figures of worship is an interesting counter to the polytheistic religions of Eorzea (the Twelve being very loosely based on the ancient Greek/Roman pantheon).

It remains to be seen whether the auri god and goddess have actual names or are just simply known by their titles due to a religious taboo against calling them by their real names (an obvious parallel with Abrahamic religions where the name of God is explicitly taboo and thus can only be known by a euphemism).

Either way, it's probably unlikely these deities will be actually reflected in character creation - after all, the only existing race in the game that is stated as having a 'guardian deity' are the miqo'te (the Seekers of the Sun worshiping Azeyma and the Keepers of the Moon devoted to Menphina), so SE are probably just going to handwave it and think "When in Eorzea, eh, Rome, do as the Romans do", and take a guardian from Eorzea's pantheon.

And as Belhi noted, the Domans at least know of the Twelve, if not worship them, so the auri god and goddess are probably not widely worshipped as one might think.

Well. You can always go with your starting nation's deity. Halone is probably the closest thing for the Xaela while Brygot is closer for the Raen.

This makes me wonder though... In 1.0 your guardian deity was supposed to have a much bigger impact on character creation though it never got fully implemented beyond a generic xp bonus on leves. What was their original purpose and use I wonder? Just like birthdays...

I recall Koji stating something back around the time that ARR released to the effect of us eventually discovering who the Twelve are/were and that our chosen among them might come into play then. Remember they were said to live in a floating city in the heavens when the moogles fled from them. Given the name and nature of the expansion we may be getting some further answers on them soon.

In terms of who an Au'Ra would worship though I honestly think you could find reasons to follow any of them.

A Dusk Mother sounds awfully like Menphina, our Goddess of the Moon. We may not have a male solar deity, but I'm sure at least one of the male gods would work.

Sounds like Izanagi and Izanami.

Except that you know... they aren't really related to dawn and dusk but if you take dawn as the coming of light, then Izanagi would fit and dawn would be the coming of darkness, i guess Izanami can be translated as the one who resides in the underworld.

Well following their own lore of a Dawn Father and a Dusk Mother, you can figure out a few things. Dawn should line up with Astral, and Dusk with Umbral; so your diety would be an Astral Male: Thaliak or Byregot, or an Umbral Female: Menphina or Nymeia. And you will choose who you would like based on your clan, Xaela or Raen, and personal preference. That would be if you follow their "lore", but you can do what you like, as it effects you more than anyone else, lol.
