Feedback on the Twitter Chocobo Race

So when I saw the event at first, I was super excited because it seemed like a good way to have an interaction with my friends that don't play 14 or had to stop for one reason or another. The prizes were also a great incentive, though I already preordered my CE, I figured if I somehow got that I could give it to a friend or something. The laptop caught my interest the most, since mine barely works, and maybe by chance I could win it.

It's really cool that people are in different tracks so they aren't directly competing with their friends that are in, but here's where I'm noticing a bit of a problem: popular/professional streamers.

Naturally they will get the most RTs/replies/whatever, and currently the top is at 3k while most people are not even past 1k. If it was top prizes for individual tracks (8 laptops for the furthest in each track), or anything that would divide the types of players, that would seem more fair. But as it is now, no one that is the majority of the playerbase has any shot at winning anything at all. The idea is fun and all, but myself and pretty much all of my friends that decided to take part as a friendly competition are super disheartened to even try anymore because the pro gamers (who more likely than not wouldn't even have a use for a laptop or any of the gaming gear) will dominate every week.

I dunno. Not really complaining I guess, just watching what happens and noticing the giant flaw in the system in case they ever decide to do something like this again after the 8 weeks.

I feel it though. It's honestly unfair to people who DON'T have notoriety and it's not as if any of these big name Let's Players need a new gaming laptop or any of the other stuff they're offering. It really dampens my desire to even continue because what's the point if you know you're going to get beaten out by people who have literally nearly 100k followers at their beck and call.

While I can't weigh in on any of the issues of popularity, I do find the whole campaign to be pretty stupid. I mean, chocobo racing as a web app? Seriously? Why not use the actual chocobo racing we have in-game?! I avoid social media like the plague, because to me that's exactly what it is. For this thing to exist strikes me as cheap and exclusionary. I like to support Square where I can, but I can't here. This is a line for me.

Unsurprisingly, a big YouTuber is winning by a lot. What a shock!

I participated in the race because I thought maybe it would be a way for me (as a new player to the game) to possibly win a copy of the expansion. With only 600 followers on twitter I ended up with 900m -- while the top people were over 3000m. Pretty discerning for people who legitimately are interested in diving into the game and likely do not have a chance of winning anything. I can almost bet some of these people don't even care about the game and just want the laptop.

I would have liked to have a chance at the prizes but after reading how it works I didn't even bother. It was obviously just going to be a popularity contest. The winners would be the people with the most followers and friends. I'm only even on twitter for the ffxiv tweets. I have 0 followers or friends or whatever they are. This seems like a pretty stupid way to give away good prizes. Well for fans anyways. For SE it's pretty cheap marketing to spread the word and have people get spammed with ffxiv tweets.

It's a shame these pro streamers are breaking this for others. Do pro streamers need a 2 thousand dollar lappy? I'm sure there are ppl more deserving. Its a shame that we can bond together as a community and lift a needy soul up.

I never actually understood the reasoning behind people giving money as donations to twitch streamers.

At least I'm not the only one. Just that in my case, saying that I don't understand the reasoning is putting it mildly.

Twitch streamers take everything, people also donate them money for no apparent reasons too >.>.
