    Worth Getting Into?

I'm a newer player (6 weeks-ish). Just wondering if PvP is really worth getting into in this game? there seems to be a pervasive attitude on the forum and internet in general that this is not a pvp game and devs don't care about pvp. however, if I read actual interviews with devs it sounds like they have solid plans for pvp moving forward. Anyway, I was just interested in community feedback?

FFXIV: Good enough for pvp mainstay or should I get my pvp fix elsewhere?

Try it out and if you enjoy it, it's worth getting into and if you don't, then vice versa. Just make sure to gear up enough first for Frontlines (i80) or it will be no fun for you or your team. If you go as SCH you'll want to either get your hands on VIT accessories or temporarily respec from Mind -> VIT so you can more easily survive focused attacks from the other team long enough to get into attunement and/or otherwise direct your team to get rid of whoever's hassling you. I'd try out both Secure and Slaughter mode, and in Slaughter mode don't even stress about healing the one or two people who run out of range and die (which assumes you're in the right place of course, if you are paired with an experienced healer stick by them you might need to use your no-weakness PVP raise on each other anyway). I'd prob recommend trying Slaughter mode first if doing it as a SCH since you can hide in the crowd more vs having to tank it; if you get used to using your personal LB in Slaughter mode just remember that the LB in Secure is shared across the whole party.

Might as well give it a shot. The main drawback for most people are the queue times since it can take quite a bit of time to actually get into a match depending on your GC or the time of day. Also Wolves' Den is pretty much impossible to get into at higher ranks unless you find a group to play with or find an event that your data center is hosting. I do hear that for newer players with low PvP rank, 30/40/50 Den pops pretty often on weekends.

The short end of it is, get your PVP fix elsewhere if you are SRS BSNS.

But that doesn't mean you can't play Frontlines casually for fun. I do recommend you try it out, doesn't hurt to queue up for frontlines at the same time as other duties you might be doing.

P.S.: Their "solid plans" involve continuing "faction based combat" (tied to your Grand Company), a serious issue most people don't like.

One thing you can learn about pvp in this game is that the developers are talking big but in the end they do not care and releasing unbalanced and recycled stuff.

I'm honestly a bit curious about this as well. I've read up on the PvP actual playing mechanics a little, and have considered giving it a try. As none of my friends ever take part in it however, and I'm understandably wary of going in relatively blind with a DF group, I've been sidelining it in favor of preparing classes for Heavensward. That long DF wait for a DPS is quite a pain as well, since I can go into other instances with said PvE only friends and get grouped up a lot quicker. I guess what I should be asking is whether or not I should give it a try regardless, or keep focusing on Heavensward preparations, such as trying to get my gear and levels built up better on my secondary classes, for the time being?

What most people do is queue for multiple things at once and just do whatever pops.

Not at the moment. Wait 2 weeks after Heavensward launch to try getting into. Not enough players doing pvp right now.

There are a good amount doing it right now because they have nothing else to do for the time being.

When 3.0 rolls around, it might go into a temporary lull like last big patch because people will be busy doing other things.

Yeah good point and for anyone not yet rank 45 now's the time to be ranking up before heavensward because whatever new pvp gear does come out I'm sure it will require a higher rank than the current cap of 45 to equip.
