PvPReborn - New PvP Community Website

Hi everyone. In preparation for the release of the expansion and the implementation of future pvp content, I have developed a pvp community website (currently in beta phase).

I felt that having a pvp fansite may prove useful soon with improving communication, creating groups/teams, and keeping up with new information and events.

I have plans to implement more to the website in the near future, but as of right now, any feedback or suggestions are welcome. Feel free to register and test it out. Thanks!

Thanks! I've been getting lots of positive feedback and am making implementations to the website everyday.

Based on recent details that I've read on Heavensward, I believe pvp is taking a big leap in the right direction and hope the website will be a great community for both newcomers and veterans.

I made an account and have been playing around on the site for a day or so now and it's great. The ability to add friends and send private messages are key features that the official forums here are desperately lacking.

I've got a few suggestions, but definitely don't feel like you have to make any of these changes, the site feels pretty polished as-is.

1. At first I thought the home screen page was seriously lacking in info, and it took me awhile to figure out you can scroll down and actually get a lot of useful stuff (news, latest posts, etc...). I think it might be better to display this stuff right off the bat. The home page looks nice with the picture of the dragoon, but scrolling down every time makes it so all the useful stuff is kind of hidden.
2. The "xx hours ago..." for forum posts seems to be off. I live in EST, and I made a post about 16-17 hours ago last night. It is currently being displayed as I posted it 12 hours ago, it might be an issue with server time vs. local time.
3. This one's not easy to fix, but the servers you're hosting on definitely aren't the fastest. There's a noticeable delay when you try to load different pages. Maybe if people start to chip via the donate button you could put some of that money towards hosting. There are some times during the day it's nice and fast, but it definitely slows down a bit, maybe when more people are using it. As it becomes more popular this is something to think about!
4. It might make sense to consolidate some of the forums for jobs. For example, maybe having "Ranged", "Tanks", "Healers", and "Melee Dps" would be simpler than having one for each job. There are obvious trade-offs here, my reasoning is it might look a little more organized and by grouping jobs into these categories, posts may get more visibility. If I play a paladin, I might never click the warrior forums, but if someone makes a warrior post in the tank forums I'll probably check it out. Also generic tank info can be posted here.

I'll let you know of more stuff as I think of it, awesome site!

Took the time to register. I could imagine using the site. Looks good.

I don't know if you designed the site or used a template, but I just thought I'd mention two things I could foresee as potentially problematic in the future, if not just confusing.

Firstly: You get no message about having updated your profile and settings until after you leave the corresponding page. If I change my profile settings and click "Save Changes", the page reloads and seems to have the same settings as before I changed them. This is not actually the case, as the settings have actually changed, but it won't show as such until you change your active page to some other page of the site.

Secondly: Member search seems to act odd when looking for character names with apostrophes when you click on their character names from their profile. It'll not work on initial search this way, but will work when you click on "All Members (#)" above the search results. Likewise, it will work when you go to the members page and search manually. I do not have this problem with character names which do not contain punctuation.

Just thought I'd let you know.

Great suggestions and catches guys. I think the server might act sluggish at times since I am constantly making additions and changes to the site which might cause delays. This might be screwing with the time errors as well. But I hope to resolve many of these issues once the website is no longer in beta phase. Thanks for this feedback!

Just an update: Site is near completion. Added many features to it, including chat. Might still be a little slow at times, as I am still making slight changes. Hope you like it!

Joined up on the site "@thana", might start streaming come Heavensward and they'd fix the ques etc. At it's current state, I doubt PvPing in FFXIV would be that interesting/entertaining since the que times are very unpredictable and most of the time, very long.
'Nyway, great idea and great execution. This is what we need (along with people signing up on the site) to get the PvP community going.
