    Heavenward job quest unlock requirements

Details about how the new jobs will be unlocked have been sparse, considering SE is well known for refusing to say anything, but this much has been confirmed in the most recent letters from the producer:

-The new job quests will be based in Ishgard
-To travel to Ishgard you must have completed all Main Scenario quests up to and including 2.55.

So I guess technically speaking you will have to have at least one of the original DoWs/DoMs up to level 50 as well as completed all of the ARR story content before you can actually start leveling one of the new Jobs up from 30. In other words this means you can't start with a new GLD character (to learn the basics of tanking with) and then change to a DRK at level 30 to continue the story from Titan onwards.

I don't really mind the story up to 2.55 requiring completion to unlock the Heavensward main scenario, but if this Ishgard requirement is in fact correct, I'm not a fan. IMO you want to be able to use the main scenario quests to level the Job you ultimately want to main as at endgame otherwise it's not really worth it.

Thank you. I've seen several discussions of exactly this and I'm glad its being brought up here. My original plan had been to level a conjurer to 30 (which I did) as a different race and then at patch, fantasia him to an Au Ra and continue on as the new healing class. Granted this will be my third alt and while I was not looking forward to suffering through the main story again, at least I expected to be doing it as a new class. I have a level 50 who meets all requirements for accessing the new areas and content but I'm a bit peeved...more than a bit peeved after finding out that the new classes I'm paying for in the expansion are being with held for frankly no good reason that I can think of.

A.It sorta spits in the face of the whole gradual learning process square has going where early dungeons, slowly receiving your moves and slowly ramping up the difficultly teach you how to play your class/role properly. If they really do this, you will level all the way to 50 and play through the whole main story as a class you intend to drop like an old fish. So what we will essentially have are a bunch of people on classes they have never played, doing high level content that is supposedly 'less forgiving'. Good plan.

    B. I've heard argument about these new classes being exclusive to Ishgard or that it makes sense in the story. Why can it not be handled like Ninja/Rogue? They are, technically not introduced until later on in the story but you need only have a lvl 15 class and complete up to a lvl 20 main scenario quest to access them. It can be done. I'm thinking of a giant astrology looking tower in Coerthas right now that would be perfect to have the new healing class stationed. Maybe its just me.

Maybe/hopefully this is all just another unfortunate case of Square withholding information when it could be solved by them just saying 'no no, you got it wrong'. I rather hope so and this is, as always, just one persons opinion. But going by the other talks I have seen, old and new players alike don't much like the idea.

Like I said, I don't know for sure that this will be the case. It is possible they were simply referring to the prerequisite to start the heavensward storyline where you officially "make your way into Ishgard" but you can still travel there at any time if you have the expansion installed. Sort of like how DRG players can travel to Coerthas to start their job quest line long before the Main Scenario actually takes you there.

But if the new jobs will in fact start at 50 and require full completion of ARR content to unlock, I agree, it automatically makes rolling one less appealing for new and experienced players alike.

You will need to complete the 2.55 quest line,
Do the first quest of 3.0 to get into Ishgard,
Have the appropriate classes/jobs high enough (MRD and/or GLA for DRK)

I don't understand their logic if that is the case. Well I understand having the prerequisite class high enough. That goes without saying. I was pretty sure they were locking the area behind the Steps of Faith boss because that is the point when the gates open. My personal belief is the new job/class trainers should be in Coerthas, level 30 in the required class to become that job, and perhaps you need to get to the point in the story where you enter Coerthas. I'm willing to put in that much work to be an Au Ra of the new jobs without having to Fantasia characters I'm fond of and have had since near to release. I still think all this gate locking seems like a lot of hoop jumping when you are asking for money but *shrug*. Guess we'll all have to wait and see but personally I'll be very disappointed if I have to level my conjurer up to 50 instead of 30 where he is waiting patiently now. We won't even mention how I feel about redoing all the story quest releases after that point.

Why do people even roll alts when they can level everything on one character and switch classes on the fly? Yea I know inventory can run out but you should be phasing out 90+% of your items as you level up. I use one retainer for spair mats, and my second for vanity gear which I only keep a few sets of.
On topic though, steps of faith being cleared IS the pre-req quest for the afore mentioned 3.0 quest. There will be no soul stones for any of the new three jobs, DRK seems to be a combo of WAR and PLD play styles while AST seems to combine WHM and SCH.
What MCH does I'd wadger is a combo of BRD and SUM since it's a range melee pet class.
I'm almost willing to be live that you may not have to level them from 1 either. Possibly start at 30 like some advanced classes in ff11 iirc.

Never a mind was changed on an internet board, no matter how good your arguments are...

Yea.... and they'll need to play 2.0-2.55 and wont even have any 50s until the end of 2.0's content.

It's not like this is the 9th expansion of WoW where they have to make new players level 100+ just so they can actually participate in new content. They can and will catch up. And it'll be easier then when we did it as well.
