Can we please cool it with the macros?

I had to do a trial yesterday and someone had a macro that was spamming the party chat every 5 secs (I am not exaggerating).
It's really distracting that I have to keep checking the log to see if someone said something and it's just a dumb joke that was already said 5 secs ago.

It just sounded like you voted to dismiss the guy that was harassing group, and it failed so venting a little.

Not even remotely the case. It was occurring in the middle of the trial. It was completed with one try so I wouldn't even have the opportunity to. Plus I would have told the guy to disable it rather than just kick them but I didn't get the chance to.

No, he was probably just tired of joke RP spam. People add "funny" words to their raid macros for their static groups, and sometimes forget or don't care to change them when they join other content.

You also get the people with long text added to raise macros. THAT annoys me as a healer, because the text is spammed whether or not the raise is completed. I might see the spam of "Bunny-fufu, by the power of the light I bring you back to this world, help us battle the darkness and blahblahblahblah", and I don't bother raising the person mentioned in the text because I THOUGHT the other healer was doing it. Five seconds later, I realize the guy is still dead, because the other healer had to move and cancel the raise. The healer spams their macro over and over, but the guy never actually gets raised.

Let's try and keep the macro text efficient when playing with randoms, shall we?

I had a healer yesterday that had a macro (with sound) for every Medica and Medica II he casted. We politely asked him to remove it. He refused. Someone vote-kicked him. Sorry, but I did vote yes.

For you it's macro jokes, for me it's macro ability announcements. Sometimes I wonder if I should assign a macro + sound effect to every one of my abilities, just to be the one dishing out the annoyance for a change.

I am convinced people do this for recognition. They want everyone in the party to know they're using X ability, and not because the announcement is helpful, but because it ensures that everyone knows they're contributing to the battle in specific ways.

Unfortunately, this is a case of words speaking louder than actions. It annoys me when (example) I diligently interrupt Chimera's voices, only for each interrupt to be followed by a late macro announcement from some other player claiming they're executing an interrupt ability on the boss. In the end the "good job on the interrupts" comments (and likely the commendations) are directed towards the wrong player (despite being late on every cast). Or, the healer who uses a raise macro on a downed player, but the downed player never actually receives the raise - in the end it seems to appear as if the healer did their job while the person on the ground decided to go AFK and screwed over the rest of the party.

This is all a larger problem than just macros, I fear. I think, perhaps, that there is just too much spam in terms of visual special effects and the effects for the really important party-aiding moves are lost in the crowd. Thus players turn to annoying attention-getting macros to ensure everyone is aware a provoke, raise, cover, interrupt, song, goad, etc was used (and who to thank for it).

I don't know about others, but I make it a point to never give comms to people using attention whore macros.
