The above is about as logical as it gets. I support green for an optimal match. White/Gray if you are well above optimal (IE LVL 50 varrying a R30 weapon)

i would say tier back into the negative colors as you get well above the Optimal Rank just as a hint to the user that there gear is out of date and they need to upgrade.
