Would the lalafees be even smaller than the other minions?
I think having a minion of your player character is a fun idea, BUT I would say it would have to be very simplistic, especially compared to say, the Y'shtola or Thancred minions. My recommendation would be to have a base for each race that's only really customizable in terms of hairstyle and colors. And also limit the outfits to AF gear or something that's equally universal; it wouldn't be reasonable to expect every armor set in the game. In this way you could make it of your character or a friend's, and you could name it. Like it'd be a "Wind-up ______" and you fill in the blank. There'd probably be a surprisingly high amount of work to make it happen though, so who knows if anyone at SE would even go for it. But I think it'd be cool, and I'd buy one.
Someone said something about minion heights; actually, it could just be a static height, about the size of minion Uncle Lou, minion Raubahn, etc
With that, it's one variable out of the way. Another way is to limit it to just dyed AF sets or just the AF sets itself.
While I do agree it'd be awesome, the amount of work needed to make it work, plus the amount of space each minion would take on the server (because these'll add up quick) might not even be worth it.
What about a model for each race/sex combination and have it wear starter gear?
Make a lalafell retainer that looks like you = profit?

i would rather want a minion of the gM's and have a dark cloud follow me with the vague shape of a red templar set :P
Sometimes you just got to have Some fun
I like the idea of a minion based on a player's last recorded appearance on Lodestone, but not as a package of dispensable minions like presented. I think I'd more prefer it be just one minion with it's appearance decided at the point of sale with a name prompt, in case you want a minion that looks like someone else. But, again, this is a resource intensive idea that'd first need them to make a player blank minion for each race and gender that would be used. They'd probably wind up looking like someone colored a minion to look like A player and not really like the player you wanted it to look like.
no, there wouldn't
many variables can be ignored, race height is irrelavant as it is a minion. gear wouldn't have to be chosen, just use the racial gear. otherwise everything else would just go into a database and could be selected by rather simple calling functions.
