Well that will also depend on how much money you want to spend then. The 960 is fairly cheap compared to the other cards, so if you only care about "just running" the games without graphical bottlenecks, then you can go for that and save a few dollars.
... and still run everything on max settings :P
But as others have stated, the 900 series cards are great cards. The "VRAM Issue" is not really an issue unless you run at super high resolutions, such as 4K or Triple monitor setups. That is where the lower grade VRAM will start to choke, its when your handling extremely high resolution textures passing through your card. If your just playing at 1080p, you won't notice any alleged stutter.
