What to do with company storage desks, armoir's etc?

I thought it would be great to buy a company storage desk and workbench ("with extra storage") for my level 50 Blacksmith, thinking any extra storage would come in handy. I saw people from other crafts hunker down at their crafting tables to craft anywhere and thought it looked cool as well.
Now I have them, unless I'm being really thick, I don't seem to be able to use them for anything?
I tried putting them in my task bar even, but I never managed to access any "extra storage"?
What am I doing wrong and how SHOULD I be able to use these items?
I can't believe they are for home decoration or some thing?
I have asked in game before and looked up the FF XIV wiki, but can't seem to find an answer or even a mention of these items. Please help because I'm sure I'm missing something really obvious and basic and its driving me nuts.

Exactly, decor thats about it.

The crafting tables you see people at come with the craft.

You can get crafting items at your house like this: http://ffxiv.gamerescape.com/wiki/Armorcraft_Forge. But its just for temporary increases and usually are expensive if you have to buy one.

Thank you for the reply Eye_Gore, because of where you buy them I really expected better. I think it is very misleading for these items to be sold where they are, it just mean you waste your company seals on them, only to have them block space in your inventory. Most things are marked as housing or enhancement items and these should be the same.
I am so pleased to finally have an answer to this though, i can now just treat them as junk and not bother about them any more.
