Dragoons throughout the FF series almost always had a helmet or hat that obscured their eyes. Besides from looking cool, what reason could this serve? Even in ffxi, elvaans with drachen or wyrm armets had their eyes obscured by the tip. Now owing to the fact that cowboys also had obscured vision from the brims of their hats, and watching the heavensward trailers I think i arrived at a conclusion. Despite gameplay, dragoons lore-wise in every FF game are aerial combatants. Sure, Jump is used sparingly in the games, but DRG are associated with taking flight and diving on their foes. To that effect, when soaring into the skies, you would want the glare of the sun to not be hitting your face as you descend, because your gaze is fixed looking down as you fall. sunlight in your eyes would prevent you from adjusting your fall trajectory so as to land on your target accurately.

What do you guys think?
