    DRG armet lore

Dragoons throughout the FF series almost always had a helmet or hat that obscured their eyes. Besides from looking cool, what reason could this serve? Even in ffxi, elvaans with drachen or wyrm armets had their eyes obscured by the tip. Now owing to the fact that cowboys also had obscured vision from the brims of their hats, and watching the heavensward trailers I think i arrived at a conclusion. Despite gameplay, dragoons lore-wise in every FF game are aerial combatants. Sure, Jump is used sparingly in the games, but DRG are associated with taking flight and diving on their foes. To that effect, when soaring into the skies, you would want the glare of the sun to not be hitting your face as you descend, because your gaze is fixed looking down as you fall. sunlight in your eyes would prevent you from adjusting your fall trajectory so as to land on your target accurately.

    What do you guys think?

I think we jacked it from a very famous Dark Knight.

If anything (and really pushing it), full faced helmet for dragoons in flight ensure they can open their eyes in the strong wind (that's why many sportsmen wear shades).

But I reckon it's mostly for swag

i don't see any slits in the armet...soo unless the catalyst channels on it serve as light...

    it's because it looks dragony.

Would you prefer the blinding light of a dragon's fire in your face if you were not a dragoon? The way the helmet is shaped could be for shielding one's eyes, as mentioned. It's also a part of the looks which makes dragoons look more like the dragons themselves, but as slayers.
