    Question about the Mac version

I've been playing FF14 on my Mac since ARR got released using Parallels Desktop and it's been working great.

Now I hear that there's a Mac version coming up with the expansion and it comes in a bundle (ARR + Heavensward). For $59.99, I'd be ready to pay again but wouldn't that mean that I'd have 2 accounts?

Isn't there a way for me to play my current character with the upcoming Mac client? You'd think it'd be as simple as buying the product, installing the client and use your current account (without inserting the new Cd-key) but I have the suspicion that the product will come with a single CD-key for both ARR and Heavensward... so if I don't insert the CD-key, I won't have access to Heavensward.

Is there a way to get the Mac client and play Heavensward with my original account?

    Thanks.

I think that if you install the game on your Mac and log in as usual there is no problem. Only issue I see is if you want the free 30 day trial you get for putting in the registration code which I think is likely not possible with an old account. Also, rumor has it that the Mac version uses a wrapper and does not run on native iOS.

Edit: In addition, I think you would also need to buy the HW expansion and register that to your old account if you want to use your old account to play HW on the Mac version.

    Thanks for the reply.

Buying the expansion separately means I buy a Windows version of the expansion which can easily be registered to my original account.. but that'd still be on a Windows client. How would I get access to the Mac client if the client only comes in a ARR+HW bundle?

Since they're selling the Mac client as a separate product, that leaves me to believe that they won't allow anyone with an active Windows account to download the Mac client. As opposed to Elder Scrolls Online that is considered a hybrid game out of the box and GuildWars 2 that allows you to download a Mac client.

So if I buy the Mac client (which I'm willing to pay for), I'm effectively starting from scratch (something I'm not keen on) unless there's a way to register the Mac cd-key (bundle) into the original account.

I was wondering if there was any official information on the matter.

The devs are working with Transgaming so, yes, it definitely is a wrapper. Wrappers do take less resources than an entire (extra) operating system, though, so I'm okay with that.

I don't think there should be a problem downloading the game after purchasing it from the SE store if you put it on a separate partition or hard drive. I've had JP and NA versions of FFXI on separate partitions and played that game for years. Once you have downloaded the game, anyone with a new or old account can log in. I actually have FFXIV running beautifully on bootcamp on my Mac but I mostly play on my PC. I guess you could install your windows version on a bootcamp partition (or separate partition/hard drive) and the new Mac version on your usual iOS partition.
