@bunnychain: nice findings. Its funny though my fps doesnt get affected much by changing the resolution. From 2560x1080 to 3440x1440 there is no fps loss.
@lunasnowfield: first, nice fps. Second, did u set the character and object quantity to maximum? Its in the others tab of system configuration. Because the first screenshot u posted shows there is no one near aetherlyte, which is unlikely at mor dhona. If by any chance yours is set at minimum, then its normal to have 60fps flat even at S rank. That 4790k is tempting though
@ooshima: my board doesnt support SLi, can i put my vga there?

I did play with some settings myself and while I've been trying to identify a cause for bored-CPU/bored-GPU results, I can't find any, really. Occlusion Culling doesn't really do anything (though causes pop-in around corners) for performance for me.

XIV is running on the 840 EVO, the rest of the hardware is visible. This is on WIN8.1x64.

I created a video because it's easiest to show where I can position myself to observe the worst performance. I manage to get frame rate in Mor Dhona as low as 29 fps. Limsa Lominsa as low as 26fps. GPU is underutilized everywhere except facing zone entrance.

Settings: Maximum, 1440p, i7 3930k@4.6Ghz, HT off, and GTX Titan X.

i check on software monitor and it tells me my cpu is running at average 60-70% load across all 4 cores, and my gpu is sitting at 30-40% load.
then i ask my friends to come under the same settings to see whats his fps. one with gtx 780 and i7 3820 had 50 fps, another with i5 gen 3 and radeon 7850 had 37 fps.
at first i thought my i5 is bottlenecking my gpu, but then my friend with similar i5 had more 50% fps than me. i tried using DSR and multiply my res by 4x and still got 20ish fps.
btw my heavensward benchmark shows normal numbers, i got 10800 score which everyone with 970 get.

anyone can tell me whats wrong with my build?
i dont expect to get all flat 60fps, but i expect it should perform better than this.

    edit: add screenshots

The first time i tried to get EyeFinity (Triple screen single desktop) working with XIV, i had a flat 20 FPS in Mor Donuts.
The second time i tried, i realized what i screwed up the first time.

When i changed the Resolution from 1920x1080 to 5760x1084, i didn't pay attention to the Hz after the resolution.
I went to the last option and hit that, thought i was done. Turns out, i'd accidentally set my Hz to 25.

Now, I read through the whole thread and saw no one mention this.
So have a check and see with the ingame options that you didn't set it to a much lower Hz than your screen is supposed to use.

When i redid my Eyefinity on the 5760x1084 (60hz) i now run 60 FPS in Mor Donuts, on 3 screens.
Granted, I'm using an R9 290x, So I'm not entirely sure if this is even going to be a thing for the GTX, However, it certainly can't hurt to look.
Also make sure your out of game Resolution settings aren't set to a low refresh rate.

Oh man... I had completely forgotten about nVidia's adaptive refresh rate. The laptop was doing weird things when I tried locking the rates down in either the NVCP or the game. But I set it to adaptive in the NVCP (triple buffer on and such for when it does clamp refresh and all) and then unlocked refresh in the game's menu. It smoothed out considerably. May be something to tinker with.

Note that I also set as much as I could to application specific as well. Power scheme is also adapative in the NVCP to help conserve power (it's a laptop after all). It has several settings that you may want to check on. Driver mode may not be working too well, who knows.

Man.. I don't know if I'm just too used to punishing my rigs but looking at your picture.. Only thing that comes to my mind is, your rig runs way too cool at max load
too bad your cpu is locked

indeed that is THE BIGGEST culprit.
I can't even play Frontlines when I have other programs open because of the cpu bottleneck (G3258 slightly oc'd) because the enemy sprites won't load.. It feels like playing WvWvW in GW2 except in GW2, they have a valid excuse (hundreds of players instead of 24)

@OP: This is important btw, did your friends stand in the same spot and were looking at the same area as you?
If you look at my screenshots, I'm having the worst performance when going up to the Ixal related crafting NPCs and looking back at the aetheryte.

I'd like to see you set your Graphics to maximum. There's also another option related to amount of character displayed in "other" settings, iirc - which also has a big impact on the performance in MD, at least for me. And then walk to the entrance of the NPC house, the direction your camera is facing, turn around and look at the aetheryte.

@sylve: yup ive set the refresh rate on windows setting at 60hz. I use 2 displays though, another one is regular 1080p @60hz as well.
@genjoe: maybe because its locked that its cool, i even set the fan at silent option in bios. Maybe i will get i7 later, when win10 and dx12 come out
@bunnychain: yup we were facing the same direction. You may read the chat log in my in game screenshot, i was comparing with my friend where he got 37fps and i got 20fps. His system is i5 gen3 @ 3.7ghz amd radeon 7850.
Yes indeed, the character and object quantity setting is the most punishing, it goes straight from 20 to 60fps just because of that. And camera at max zoom out, camera at close up doesnt count

Indeed, a sweet processor, but see above comment. I'm personally waiting for 3.0 and see what happens before I go rushing to the nearest hardware store.

Yep! To be honest I think I went overkill when I purchased my i7 4790k. I'll let you know how it is if you want when HW hits .
