I remember reading that the GTX 970 had a memory issue as the memory is used up. There was a design flaw that was meant to improve performance on lower end machines but it ended up causing it to drop performance drastically when it gets close to using all of it's vram available. Read some about it here

yes thats the 3.5 + 0.5GB vram thing. framerate will drop if u hit more than 3.5gb vram and its still far from FF14 usage which is around 1GB.

An SSD will help some in crowded areas if you don't have one.

I don't know if i would throw $350 dollars at it. if you look at things like this you will see the difference between i3 and i7 is extremely minimal for gaming

I would spend 30-40 bux on an aftermarket air cooler and some arctic silver thermal paste honestly. i think cooler master 212 have a really good reputation, ur processor prob getting too hot if it's dropping all the way down to 20 fps.

go to your Square Enix > Final Fantasy XIV ARR directory in the start>programs menu, there's a shortcut to "system information" just under the ffxiv launcher, open it up, click copy information to clipboard and post it here.

i bought this i5 4460 because everyone on the web say its more than enough for gaming and u wont get any noticeable improvement anymore than that.
LOL, yes the i7s will give better performance than the i5s, which is why they cost more. But you gotta be nuts to go out and buy a new CPU just for a small improvement of the FPS in Mor Dhona. Why are you obsessing about your fps in Mor Dhona? It's just one tiny area in the game! The reason why there are so many people in Revenant's Toll is because it's the where you obtain your rewards for performing end game stuff. Thus it becomes a spot where people just "hang out" when they have nothing else to do. What good is having a high frame rate if all you are going to do is stand around?

Play the game instead of relying on the FPS meter to make you feel insecure about your performance.

    A i5 4690k will almost be comparable to a i7 4790k.

i7 offers more hyper-threads (if i recall). It's mostly used for more intensive games (such as Crysis 3), or if you're into editting, Adobe Premier/After Effects/Photoshop.

To be honest, that's normal. I guess.
This is Mor Dhona at 12:40am on a Sunday Morning:

Not that many people are there, which would explain the high FPS in MD.

Now, if you take into factor the abundance of people, that would drop to maybe 30-40fps.
You can't compare frame rates in MD, because that zone is stupid packed.

These are my specs if you're wondering:
    i7 4790k 4.0 GHz
16GB 1866 MHz Ram (Forgot brand, sorry.)
    GTX 970 4GB FTW.

Hyperthreading is Intel's Simultaneous multithreading (SMT) technology. For every core there are two logical cores. This allows one core to run two threads, thus increasing the efficiency of the processor by keeping the instruction pipeline clear of holes. For the players above can clearly see that only 80% of each of the four cores is being utilized. Hyperthreading provides a way to fill in that 20% with another thread, thus further increasing utilization of the CPU.

Will hyperthreading provide a noticeable performance improvement for games? Doubtful. In all honesty, the CPU really isn't a factor in games anymore with all the work being offloaded to the GPU.

It doesn't matter how fast your CPU or GPU are if the graphics API itself is a snail. I run an older i7 2600k with a GTX 970 OC, at max settings, and get anywhere from 20-30fps in the heart of Mor Dhona. S ranks ive dropped to ~15fps. Not unusual in crowded areas. I highly doubt you are bottlenecked anywhere.
That could be the case. So its just driver optimazation and such?

    Also:

My graphic settings are "Maximum" except that I turn party effects to limited so I can see my character and not a laser light show in combat xD
Also I miss typed in my OP, I have a 970 not a 980 but its still not utilized as you can plainly see.

Not likely to cause this issue. If anything, it would increase your load and lower your fps, but since your not capping then it shouldn't hurt it. I use SweetFX myself, and disabling it doesn't affect my FPS by more than a few points.
