You do realize that within the first five minutes of being in town they tell you that leves are Contract jobs for adventures and were developed as a way to keep adventures from becoming mercenaries after the war ended ya?

Leves as they will be after 1.19 are the best implementation of Daily quests in any MMO ever. Of course they will not really be dailies anymore but they will serve the same purpose of giving a short boost of XP when you have nothing else planned to do. The reason they will be the best implemented way of doing this is simply because you will no longer feel obligated to do them because you can simply catch up on them later. This new method will also allow you to focus your attention on any singular class rather than having to strategically pick your leves arounds the most convenient classes for the day.

In the end this system will be a fantastic base to have static behind the open world quests and the instances that will come in the future. It never should have been the main focus of the game, but as a part time job for adventurers it will be a great system.

I think Kiote has hit the nail on the head here. Leve's are just another point of progression for players on the road. It's like ambient questing, you can do them side by side with grinding and reap the extra rewards.
The fact that they scale makes them much better than most other implementations of daily quests in MMOs.

Black Ops is a really really really bad example for this... the PC version was extremely bugged and unplayable. It is 100% the developers/publishers fault that PC games sell less well. The bad numbers for PC are also caused by exclusive titles and titles that come out months before the PC version. The publishers are basically trying to force people to buy consoles.

Yep. It's a reach-around deal between publishers and the brick-and-mortar stores. If you buy all your games on Steam there's no reason for you to talk to our friendly sales representatives so they can try and hock a bunch of crap you don't want.

What we end up getting is stymied innovation, because everyone is developing for the six-year-old hardware of the Xbox 360. DirectX is now version 11, and still nearly every game developed uses DX9 to maintain compatibility with the antiquated consoles.

Well, Black Ops is actually the perfect example. If you look at gaming in whole. PC has fallen to 7% market share. Black Ops might have actually beaten that by a point in that specific case. The point is...the gaming on a PC market is dying. The console market is growing. The future of this game is on the PS3.

It dumb have kill 4 turkeys indeed. But a goat and a giant salamander also? That no dumb, why you say this thing? It good. Many thing be dead make leve gooder than single thing dead.

A repost of some old comments of mine:

Remember how PCs used to be the king of FPS? Not so much anymore:

Even the FPS, once exclusive domain of the PC, is now a console enterprise, with Call of Duty: Black Ops launching on 4.9 million sales on the Xbox 360 and PS3. The PC version, meanwhile, sold less than 400,000 copies (the NPD lumped them in with sales of the Nintendo DS and Wii versions).
Here's some more recent sales data culled from NPD December 2010 Report:

    2009 2010
Video Games Software (Console+Portable: New Physical): $9.92B $9.36B
    Total Software Sales – (Console+Portable+PC: New Phys)): $10.60B $10.06B

    Math =>
    2009 PC Software Sales = $0.68B
    2010 PC Software Sales = $0.70B

The PC game market is roughly a 7% share of the total video game market....

If I were a company today...deciding where to invest my resources...well let's just say I understand why the KB/M UI is an obvious secondary concern for SE. (See also complaints regarding Dungeon Seige III's recent launch and shoddy KB/M configuration support). It used to be that the PC was the primary platform, and then it got ported to the console. But I'm starting to get the reverse feeling from many games nowadays. PC is just a little, tiny market that can be used to beta test video games before doing console launches to millions and millions of customers.

The PS3 is the future of this game, like it or not. There will never be a massive influx of new PC players. However, there will one day be a massive influx of console players.

The Publishers actually prefer the Steam business model. It lets them sell direct to customers without a middle man and eliminates the used market. The brick-and-mortar stores love console discs that they can buy/sell over and over again without giving any money to publishers.

They are not in it together.

They thought PC gaming was doomed.

Then Doom came along and saved the day.
