Is "Grit" a proper name for a DRK ability?

Watching today's live letter, a lot of things they previewed for the Dark Knight class looked very awesome. Their abilities sound thought out and I even heard the word "Souleater" dropped which pleased me greatly!

However, one thing bothered me (well, two technically, I didn't really appreciate being called an angsty emo teenager for wanting to play a DRK, but that's besides the point.) "Grit" sounds a lot more like a Warrior ability than a Dark Knight one.

A quick google search tells me I'm not alone in this; when searching google images for "grit" or "gritty" the same few images keep popping up - a tough, no-nonsense, hands-on, muscled individual. Often it kicks up images of sheriffs in the Wild West. What it doesn't show, however, is an Anti-Paladin, dishonorable, shadow and darkness wielding manipulator.

So I ask the FFXIV community; am I alone in thinking "Grit" is a poor choice for a DRK ability? And am I further alone by thinking it would suit a Warrior far better?

While it could very well suit a WAR when you just think the name of the job, "Grit" sounds very much like someone pushing their way through the pain, something that Dark Knights would do alot when sacrificing their HP for attacks most likely (regardless of what DRKs may have been like, they all probably felt a good bit of pain when they sacrificed their hp.)

Of course for XIV its more MP sacrifice, and Grit doesn't require such, but it still can work.

PS: While one could say even these Dark Knights are "Anti-Paladin", what we currently know about them points to them being honorable, as well as Cecil (THE most well known FF Dark Knight) was also very honorable.

PSS: "Let's see you grit those teeth!

I think it fits just fine. It simply means biting your teeth together. It could be due to pain in DRKs' case, instead of anger in WARs'.

I need to stop reading when I'm sleepy.

I read this title as "Grits" at first. Maybe the Grits skill increases their health by making the otherwise emo dark knight be happy he's got a bowl of grits.

Dark Knights aren't necessarily dishonorable or manipulators. Going by the description here, they're the guys who hunt down corrupt members of the clergy and aristocracy when the law can't. Grit seems appropriate for anyone whose goal involves going against some of the most powerful people in a society no matter what the consequences are (like becoming a pariah or feared). Think like Batman or Daredevil with a great sword. I think Grit pretty much works fine, but the loc team has been known to make weird changes (maybe the original Japanese is better/has a different nuance), so who knows.

As far as the emo thing goes, my Japanese is pretty bad but I'm fairly certain Yoshi-P used an expression that doesn't have a good English equivalent, and "emo" is kind of the closest fit. Think like a teenager going through the whole "look at me I'm so badass and cool and such a tortured soul. I fight against these horrible oppressors even though no one will ever know about my struggle and pain. I'm so badass and cool." Seems to fit dark knight/batman/daredevil lol.

While I also didn't like Chuunibyou reference (though it was funny), I can see where it comes from (but really we are all playing a fantasy based mmorpg, we are all guilty of this). I personally have the same issue with use of "Grit" as a "stance. I would have liked something along the lines of Conviction ( throw in Dark Conviction if you must). Perhaps even Vehemence (a skill used by Dark Knights in FFT WoTL), though it would have to be a mirror (fliped/reversed) version of it's previous incarnation. In regards to the Anti- Paladin, dishonorable reference, I don't feel it depicts them properly, the current lore found on the Heavansward site does not describe them as such. They are seen as valiant and sentinels that lead the down trodden through darkness.

I was under the influence that Dark Knights were something along the lines of Ishgard's black-ops; though perhaps that's just two people interpreting the word "honor" differently.

It seems fine, it just points to the determination to win at any cost. Seems apt for a Dark Knight in all our brooding angst.
