    1. How do you feel about the patch frequency?
It's what it should be, considering how SE works (i'm not implying bad things with this statement).

    2. How do you feel about the changes themselves?
I see the game becoming more playable, but not more interesting.

    3. How do you feel this game will fair against current upcoming titles?
I "feel" it can't compete, but i wouldn't argue about the opposite opinion as i simply can't say. There are games with big player bases i wouldn't play even if they paid me.

    4. Do you think this game will ever exceed niche popularity?
If it gains any sort of popularity, it will, it's moving towards the mainstream mmorpg at a good pace so it's bound to be popular in the broad sense, eventually.

    5. Do you think the changes are in the right or wrong direction?
Wrong on most things. Not all, but most.

    6. Do you think the they have focused on the most important things historically with patches or should the focus have been elsewhere?
I think the focus should have been more on content. I simply don't think the basic systems, like battle, were broken enough to warrant delaying all new content for 1 year or even that they needed a complete remake. Even when the focus was appropriate i feel the choices made weren't the best. I may make a thread about it one of these days. I'd rather play an engrossing game with low comfort than a boring and comfortable game.

    1. How do you feel about the patch frequency?

When you compare them to other MMO's the patches here slow. You may want to hop in and say "But this isn't WoW or this is Rift or.." that doesn't matter, this game competes against them, a modern mmo team should have updates rolling out faster.

    2. How do you feel about the changes themselves?

Mostly underwhelmed with them and not a fan of the way they are implemented. Taking 2-3 (or more) patches to implement a new feature or to adjust a feature fully is just patch padding, making it look bigger and more full of content than it really is. I mean come on, was the hide weapon/mainhand command so high in demand/importance that it needed to be HALF implemented last patch? Nope, they should have just waited on adding it in 1.19 so it was fully ready and functional. They to do much of this partial feature implementation around here.

    3. How do you feel this game will fair against current upcoming titles?

Upcoming MMO's can't make the population much worse than it currently is. Those of us here are obviously loyal... let's face it there are more polished and established choices out there. We are just waiting for some good patches. Upcoming MMO's are not hurting this game, a crappy launch and trying to rush this game out early is what hurt and is continuing to hurt this game.

    4. Do you think this game will ever exceed niche popularity?

This game has one more chance to be something more than a niche game for those of us hardcore fans of it or for those wanting something to waste time in before the next MMO. When PS3 launches it opens up the game to another chunk of people and the game needs to be polished by then. They need to get a good marketing campaign in ALL regions this game will be launched it and make it known its coming to PS3, with new content (expansion) and also heavily reiterate that its also on PC.

Also if they are smart they will try and work out whatever issues they have with microsoft and get this on 360. If they need to toss MS a bone and offer them a % of sub fees or something do it. Your bringing in more players and more money even if you have to kick a little back. WiiU is supposedly powerful, as much as I hate post Gamecube nintendo get this game on WiiU also. The more platforms the better for the population.

    5. Do you think the changes are in the right or wrong direction?

I have mixed feelings on this. Somethings were definately right and some things could have waited.

    6. Do you think the they have focused on the most important things historically with patches or should the focus have been elsewhere?

There should have been some more focus on a few things. Culinarian & Food is a system that was needlessly complicated, another one of those "lets make it different, just so its different from wow, eq etc". Some things are not broke and don't need overhauls. The system should have bee as simple as, eat food, get buff, get higher rank now you get diminished buff so eat higher rank food. Not the current, look at chart.. oh crap my x stat is 5 points to high (lower stat) eat food. Its just.. meh. Culinarian is an entire job that has been getting the shaft since launch, its the Magus (WAR) of FFXIV. No matter what other changes are needed in game a class should not be dumped into the "will get to eventually" pile, its an entire class for god sakes it should have been fixed asap.

Market system is crap. The search feature is horrid, I and many of started helpful and of course non helpful threads about this. I don't care if we keep the market wards, but a new search UI needs to be implemented ASAP. Give us a cookie cutter search feature that every other MMO has and have it list which ward the item is located in. That will make it 100% better. Look here for suggestions I made and what others revised from my original idea. Hell if they want they can take half a dozen patches to implement it like everything else being fixed, just get the ball rolling on it.

And finally DOL and to a lesser degree DOH (Least you guys got a NM drop > Dodore Jacket) need some unique/NM loot or something similar. You can't tout how a game is so great, you can play as a crafter, a gatherer or a combatant all the way as their own jobs and give 2/3 almost nothing each patch, can you for god sakes maybe just give DoW a couple less items so DOH/DOL can have some damn item love in the patches in the future? I have caught tens of thousands of fish, my rod is held together by duct tape, bubble gum and sheer willpower!

1.18 was the first of the real patches, since we haven't had the next one yet, that's a fairly useless question to ask.

So far? Fine.. Groundwork, your asking how I feel about looking at the bare bones of a house before putting anything on it. Basic foundation. No walls, no flooring, barely a roof, maybe one finished bathroom, maybe a working kitchen. Again, fairly useless question at this point.

Depends on what state the game is in when those titles release. If you are trying to say how would it fair now? Obviously the answer is poorly. But then again, why even bother to ask that when the game is in such a transitional state?

That's pretty subjective. What do you assume are the most important things? Honestly unless you are fully up to date on the core systems of the game, how the programming works for them, and what other systems interact with them, etc. the only thing a player is qualified to comment on is their own preferance.

I'm enjoying the game more then I did at release, and each new patch adds more things to experiance.

    1. How do you feel about the patch frequency?
I think patch frequency is very reasonable considering the changes that need to be made. I believe the devs and Yoshi-P are working as fast and efficiently as they can.

    2. How do you feel about the changes themselves?
I have been skeptical of a few of the ideas released, but I have yet to encounter a change that I hate. For the most part I have been pleasantly surprised with the changes being made.

    3. How do you feel this game will fair against current upcoming titles?
Unfortunately I do not think FFXIV will do well up against upcoming games unless they can really pull something amazing off with the PS3 release.

    4. Do you think this game will ever exceed niche popularity?
I can hope, but probably not. Like I said, unless they do an incredible job selling the PS3 release the game will not achieve the popularity it should. The negativity surrounding the release of the PC version is a stink that is going to linger for some time.

    5. Do you think the changes are in the right or wrong direction?
The right direction. It is unfortunate to see that so many original ideas are being removed from the game. However the changes that have been made are impressive. I find myself to be more motivated to play frequently as improvements are made.

    6. Do you think the they have focused on the most important things historically with patches or should the focus have been elsewhere?
I would have liked to see the stat and transportation systems addressed sooner, but I am sure that the time spent waiting for them is well worth it. I don't believe that the wait for many of the changes is due to being low priority, but more of a labor issue. I am sure that many of these changes require lengthy testing and I am happy to wait for quality content.

    1. How do you feel about the patch frequency?
I am looking forward to all the changes & improvements so of course I wish they were more frequent but I believe that once the major Battle-Reform Blueprint is in place, future patches (content) will be more frequent.

    2. How do you feel about the changes themselves?
I like what's been done so far (except punching mobs an an Archer. I would prefer a kick to the groin (them, not me) or a nice roundhouse kick to the head) and I am looking forward to all the changes & improvements so of course I wish they were more frequent but I believe that once the major Battle-Reform Blueprint is in place, future patches (content) will be more frequent.

    3. How do you feel this game will fair against current upcoming titles?
"Current upcoming" titles is a non sequitur but seeing as FFXIV is the only MMO I am currently playing and I do not plan to play any upcoming titles (maybe GW2, MAYBE), it will fair quite well for me...if a few hundred thousand others feel similar.

    4. Do you think this game will ever exceed niche popularity?
Depends on one's definition. If by niche we mean "not as popular in the U.S.", than it will always be a niche market. But I expect XIV to be very popular in Japan (PS3) and in Europe, maybe Australia too. U.S market will be the niche.

    5. Do you think the changes are in the right or wrong direction?
They are going in the right direction for me personally (see this old post for my perspective) but I am quite well aware that not everyone shares my vision. (Sometimes, I think Yoshi does though...kinda scary actually.)

    6. Do you think the they have focused on the most important things historically with patches or should the focus have been elsewhere?
This is a tough one because I was one of the masses that was bored stiff with the released game and demanded content. I wasn't exactly enamored with the Armory System (as implemented) or the Battle-Mechanics, but I could've lived with 'em if I had something fun to do.
However once they announced the Battle Reform Blueprint and Jobs System (even the Crafting), I now really wish they wouldn't release ANY new content untill all these New Systems are in place and working properly. I want to experience everything fresh, so I don't play much but of course I can't resist a post-patch login...or two...or more.

    1. How do you feel about the patch frequency?
SE may need more employees to get em out faster. Slow but steady isnt really good for them right now.

    2. How do you feel about the changes themselves?
Headed in the right direction but too slow.

    3. How do you feel this game will fair against current upcoming titles?
Work needs to be done before the upcoming titles arrive or else a comeback will be tougher.

If elder scrolls Skyrim Had Multiplayer it would = certain Doom

    4. Do you think this game will ever exceed niche popularity?
That is uncertain at this point, due to the narrow minded content this game Currently poseses.

    5. Do you think the changes are in the right or wrong direction?
Absolutly anything from Its current form is a step in the right direction.

    6. Do you think the they have focused on the most important things historically with patches or should the focus have been elsewhere?
My #1 issue with FFXIV is the way the level designers got Lazy, Cut and paste all over the place makes me feel like they didin't care. I really dont like the seeing the samething over and over. REVAMP THE LAND!

    7. What Do i think this game is lacking.
    -Diverse land scape
    -creative custom level designs
-the land scape is just BAD
    -Interactivety with the enviroment
    -Cliffhanger areas.
    -Collosus NM for each Zone
    -Voice acting for quests.
-Mog House with furniture (I feel downgraded for FFXI)
    -Auction House
    -Zone Domination.
-player controlled tranportation. Ex. company ships & airships . like in FF7
    -INOVATION-
-social areas like a tavern with actual service (because its FUN and uneccesary and thats what a mmo game is supposed to be). ex/ playstation home.

Don't really feel the need to answer the other questions because I think the game is moving in the right direction faster than any MMO I've ever seen in need of fixes.

    3. How do you feel this game will fair against current upcoming titles?

Even in it's current state I have not seen any new MMO that has rivaled this one. It's only real compitition atm is WoW(can only go down), LOTRO(cult/f2p), and lol Rift.

If any game has a chance to hurt this games comeback it will be Star Wars, but every Star Wars game ever made has been exactly what this game was, a lot of Hype and a massive let down. SO i'm not worried. The worst that game will do is take away the SW cult fans. I mean, Terra is already failing and it's not even here yet and honestly, after GW I'm surprised they could afford a second one..

Dont really understand your guild wars not affording a second one, it has sold 6.6 million copies to date? if that doesnt warrant a part 2, i dont know what your expectations are.

It was also one of the first MMO's to run on a free-2-play model, though I never understood how they were able to profit from that considering the server fee and development cost continued.
