I'm excited for everything but Healers (which sound like they're being homogenized...) and Summoner. Think I'm just going to give up on Summoner.

Everyone seems to be hating on the SMN changes because they didn't get new egis. Nevermind the fact that the job itself needed some heavy reworking so it actually played like it was fun. But no, we have to get mad about pets, pets we would have been probably forced to choose one of or ignore alltogether (all hail garuda egi).
I'm pleased that they improved the actual playstyle of the job, and i will enjoy taking on Bahamut's power and casting Ahk Morn on all ya faces.
Yep. Some people can't get over that its not how they would have designed Summoner, and somehow think SE is going to completely redesign (as opposed to reworking/tweaking) the job to their liking.Everyone seems to be hating on the SMN changes because they didn't get new egis. Its like the people in FFXI who, years into the game, still complained that RDM was not a melee mage. Like --- I get that you would prefer something else, but at this point obviously the basic concept is set. And some of us REALLY like it!
(Of course I was a main RDM in FFXI and someone who plays SMN in FFXIV a lot... I chose those jobs because I liked their playstyle and basic ideas, not because I thought if I played it enough Square would suddenly redefine the job...)
Pets can be molded to fit encounter situations (like whether you'll be dealing with lots of adds or if the fight only has one target to kill). I think what's gotten to some people is their mentioning of pet glamours, which I take as them saying "yeah, we're not gonna make Leviathan/Ramuh/Shiva-egi, we'll just let you change Ifrit/Titan/Garuda-egi to look like them". To me at least, that's not a good thing.Everyone seems to be hating on the SMN changes because they didn't get new egis. Some of the things asked for were absolute no-brainers. Like changing Contagion into a SMN ability instead of a Garuda-egi ability.
I can't resent your embracing that thing that is the lovechild of an Oracle and a Time Mage, but let's not downplay the melee camp.Its like the people in FFXI who, years into the game, still complained that RDM was not a melee mage. Suffice to say, I didn't begin to feel like a Red Mage until Trusts came out. Been doing the free login thing, and having someone tank, someone heal, and someone DPS as I melee/WS/nuke a mob, throw off-heals at my leisure while wielding my firelit sword with NO complains and no requests for Refresh/Haste has been a dream come true. Too bad it took a decade and NPC AIs for it to happen.
* The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
* Design ideas:
Red Mage - COMPLETE (https://tinyurl.com/y6tsbnjh), Chemist - Second Pass (https://tinyurl.com/ssuog88), Thief - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/vdjpkoa), Rune Fencer - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/y3fomdp2)
Quite frankly, we don't know that they didn't do that.
Does anybody honestly think they talked about literally every class/job adjustment in this stream? Because I don't. They talked about what the existing jobs are getting after level 50, and gave a few points regarding changes to their pre-50 kits. We don't know any specifics about anything pre-50 except that Tri-Disaster is now Tri-Bind (though I can't help but think of that as Tri-JustCrossClassBlizz2 still).
We know that existing pets are getting more abilities. Has anyone stopped to consider that the existing pet bars have no room for more buttons? Perhaps some of the existing buttons are being moved to the player. Maybe SMN and SCH will have to slot abilities in to a limited number of slots? We don't know.
It isn't worth complaining about something we know very VERY little about.

Hmm, I really thought I heard him say that, but it seems you're right. It isn't in the official summary. Maybe I misunderstood.
That's the issue I have with Summoner on a fundamental level. Rather than making it about rotating the pets (give each a rotation, split their recasts (currently they're shared for no reason), give Summoner the means to actually switch Egi mid-battle (swiftcast II/make the summoning action do something worthwhile for the cast time), they've opted to make it about a single pet which you summon at the start of battle and should last you the whole fight. Not a whole lot of summoning going on for a Job called Summoner...
I mean, Scholar will be sacrificing its fairy, meaning it'll have to resummon it. Machinist they suggested will benefit from alternating pet. Both Jobs do 100% or more summoning than Summoner. The issue I have with Summoner is the same issue I'd have with Dragoon if it had no Jumps, the same issue I'd have with Ninja if it had Ninjutsu. From day one my issue with Summoner has been the lack of actual summoning, what they had I figured was OK assuming they build upon it later with more pets, but rather than doing that they're going backwards; Fully embracing the one Egi to rule them all mentality and seemingly opting for a pet Glamour system instead (unless those comments were jokes).
Honestly, I might be coming around to the changes. It sounded like they were making the Jobs too similar, but looking over what they actually said I'm at least somewhat interested in Scholar again. Scholar I think lacks any sense of tactical play currently (do I use Aetherflow on Sacred Soil or Lustrate, that's it...) and instead was just a hastily thrown together pet Job, branching it off Arcanist really made the Job suffer IMO, since they needed to turn it from DPS to healer in 20 levels... When I compare it to XIs Scholar (no I don't want a repeat of that) which had a plethora of Stratagems to choose from to enhance spells, XIVs just seems lacking. Luckily they seem to be expanding upon that tactician role more with the new skills, so maybe I spoke too soon.
