Demon Book boss "Ylk'eorz" and the text on his page.

So I like running around Eorzea and reading all the little bits and pieces of writing I can find. You can find some interesting or even misspelled things.

    Some examples:
    - The signs for the Bronze Lake hot springs say a different name than what the NPCs call it. The signs call it the Sanatorium whereas the NPCs call it the Sanitorium. The definition is the same but the change is still something interesting.

    - Did you know the posters on the Market boards are backwards?

Anyhow, in todays live letter they showed the new dungeons and bosses in them. One of which is a giant demon book. The letters on its page will be clearly visible when you are in the dungeon. So I thought it would be great to take a screenshot and translate them. Of course since Heavensward hasn't come out yet I only had the trailer to work with.

Well turns out what I could translate came out as complete gibberish to me. I was shocked that they may have put in such a huge page of actual text and yet it mean absolutely nothing. After digging a little deeper though it might still be something.

Turns out some of the words I managed to convert actually are words just in different languages rather then English like everything I've found before in the game. I've come across some German, Welsh, and Indian words so far.

Sadly though there is a problem. I can't get a clear enough and large enough picture to finish converting the text on the page to make any coherent sentences. The letters are also too small to make out the intricate markings of them. Is that an S or an A, I or a L, V or Y, B or G, etc.

The words in the book may still be complete gibberish but there is a chance they could also be one heck of a cool discovery.

If it is complete gibberish though I will feel incredibly let down by the person who wrote it. Specially after the Zodiac quest items having the tale of the zodiacs embossed on the paper, which was an amazing touch.

If this thread is still here when Heavensward comes out and I get to that dungeon myself I will still translate it of course. I just thought people might want to know about this and may find it interesting or maybe have better luck with this then myself.

As part of a time-honored tradition going all the way back to when we tried to translate Dalamud (it said ABCDEFGHIABCDEGFGHI), transcribing the text on the demon book was pretty much the first thing I did with that dungeon preview trailer (after geeking out with Rocl and Fusion; feathered ixal!). I won't say that what I got was gibberish, but I've sure yet to make sense of any of it, either.

I swear I can make out several Dravanian words (mor, afah, morn), but the biggest words seem much longer and more complicated than a dragon would use (as far as we've been led to believe), even though the book itself is arguably dragon-sized. I also specifically see "gwyr" and "aen," as in the two parts of the landmark Gwyr-Aen in Coerthas.

The title looks to me: Pentetolothys Athealogicad Ylk'eorz, which I assume to be some pretty warped Greek.

I'll try my best to do a quick pass to give you an idea; but I can't make any promises on accuracy until I really sit down and try to put some polish on the smudgy / blurry bits. It should be enough to give you an idea what it looks like and/or help you get started on your own transcription, though. First impressions, again, I'm thinking Greek + Dravanian might be a good place to start.

Well you got a lot further then I did as my eyes aren't the strongest. The use of Dravian words would definitely explain why I could have thought it was gibberish as my knowledge on that is non-existent.

Well Greek and Dravian are out of my field lol. Most I would be able to have given is what you just did except a month later. It's pretty interesting if this is true though makes the game feel more in-depth and mysterious.

If my guess was correct it would have seemed to be possibly a rant against god worship or about people being anti-god. My range of language is horrible limited to only English though. Using Google translate which I know is not the best. Also the dravian words cause it to be broken up and fractured.

Ylk'eorz second portion referring to Eorzea possibly? So the book has something to do with the Ylk (yolk?) of Eorzea? Or maybe I'm throwing everything off.

Not at all. My first though was that "Ylk'eorz" might mean "Ilk of Eorzea" or "Eorzeans."

I just haven't figured out enough of it to be like, "Look how well that fits in context!" lol

Koji did tell me at London FanFest last year that we'd be getting some clues as to where the name 'Eorzea' came from. This might be it.

    It'd be especially cool if you can actually go about reading books in the library... such a shame to just go there and fight... ;-;

Koji has oft referred to a 'lore library' in Sharlayan that would serve as a repository for lore and history not otherwise covered by quests or dialogue. I don't think we've had it explicitly confirmed but Koji has dropped enough hints about it that it's fairly likely to be coming in Heavensward. If it's not connected to the Great Library dungeon itself I imagine there'll be another location within the Sharlayan settlement that offers what you're hoping for.
