for a fresh 50, relic is quite necessary as it is an excellent stepping stone until you can get a soldiery weapon or an ironworks weapon. don't skip stepping stones. especially if you tank.Yes. The relic is entirely unecessary in the grand scheme of things this close to the expansion. After the initial quest to get the i80 weapon it isn't really worth your time with only a month to go anyway. Focus on gearing up every other slot. Hell, you're having trouble getting into the first fight, but you have hydra, ifrit Hard, Garuda Hard, and Titan Hard after that all with tougher ilvl requirements to meet. In general you need to work on all of your gear not just the weapon. Even if you could do Chimera right now the road block would still be coming sooner rather than later.

You might as well complete it though as Ifrit, Garuda and Titan HM are also required for later story progression. You don't have to really worry about the upgrades unless you wsnt achievements and the title "Z"

Sol weapons are so easy and quick to get though.. There's no reason to do the relic quest for hours on end just to get a weapon you'll ditch in a couple days..
If you like your relic weapon, fine. But in terms of time investment, skipping it is a good idea.
Besides, who's to say OP even has enough money for the pre-relics and all the other stuff for it? OP sounds like a fresh lv 50, relic will completely drain her bank
I am aware of that. That's why I said....
AFTER the i80. Aka AFTER the Relic. I also went on to say he'd run into more ilevel limits with Garuda, Ifrit, and Titan and suggested he work on some of his other gear too because he will run into limits again.

I just remembered, I have done beast tribe quests a while back, but haven't done duty roulette as yet. I may need to top up on tomestones for a first purchase, as I haven't got enough yet.
