    Think Dark Knight will have any HP-sacrificing abilities, for Solo or Off-tank roles?

    As much as I love the idea of a Dark Knight being a Tank, I'm actually kind of shocked that they supposedly don't have ANY abilities that utilize HP. I mean, it doesn't make sense as a primary mechanic for a Tank, but I wonder if we might see something similar crop up for playing Solo, or even for the Off-tank role?

    For example, after the Dark Knight's target is dead, maybe he can sacrifice his HP to help bring down the actual Boss quicker, or even just out questing, letting you convert your health into raw damage for faster, albeit riskier kills?

    i don't think it's conducive to have a tank that has any sort of ability to decrease its own survivability, especially given the job is going to attract a lot of "OMG EDGE" people who don't care about tanking.

    They said they were considering it, but couldn't find a way to make it work without basically screwing over it's tanking effectiveness.

    That's kind of strange, since there's actually an idea that comes immediately to mind: In WoW, the Monk class has a tank spec whose biggest gimmick is having all damage done to them be "staggered" as a stacking DoT rather than just eating it all upfront. If you did an overhaul of the thematics, you could say that the DRK's deal is that they're impervious to their opponent's attacks but in order to invoke this ostensible invincibility, they're slowly draining their own life force. It's kind of a stretch, but it does keep the DRK's classic FF feel of self-sacrifice more or less intact.

    Similar to sword oath, maybe DRK will have a stance or buff that makes it do slightly more damage in exchange for a loss in damage mitigation/gaining less enmity. Then an HP sacrificing ability might come into play.

    Sacrificing life for damage is what makes a dark knight a dark knight. Since tanks are always getting healed this shouldn't be too much of an issue I think. So long as these skills don't take too much hp.

    If they don't give DRK its signature move, an HP-sacrificing ability, they might as well change the name to something entirely different other than 'dark knight'. Like I said in a previous thread, they have butchered the dark knight that's known to us all, no matter how happy some people might be.

    Keep in mind in all of those games, it wasn't a tank.

    They've said that dark knight will use MP instead of HP, because them hurting their health would hurt their viability to raid tank too much.

    I never mentioned FFXI, just that it doesn't feel like the dark knight we're all used to have in the entire franchise. At all.
