Too Weak To Be Worthwhile - Teleporting

I don't mind certain things being easier than they were in FFXI, but this one issue totally takes away from the enjoyment of exploration.

Since when could you get tele'd to a crystal you have not activated? SE, please turn this particular easy-mode off.

EDIT: After reading some comments, and thinking a little more about this issue, I've got a question for the devs.

DEVS: Will the ability to be teleported to an area where you have never been be removed once the zones are redesigned? A comment on this would be much appreciated. Thank you!

10/14/11 - FFXIV community civil war erupts. "I'm paying and the game is gonna be awesome." VS. "I'm leaving and the game is gonna die." Let the battles begin!

I am not trying to start a war here, but they have REALLY been making an effort to make this game REALLY easy.

Driving me nuts tbh, I would like some challenge.

    again.
people think walking to places determines difficulty. it cracks me up. i am sure we want hard fights and hard goals to reach but if SE changed to the system you want that would not make the game any harder or easier.

Pick your battles and pick them smarter.

The OP's point isn't that "Walking is hard"

He intends to emphasize that in 11 you needed to FIRST get the teleport before you could be ported there. In essence creating a certain accomplishment for taking the time and effort to obtain a location.

In 14, you do not need to do this prerequisite, in essence, making it "easier" to accomplish the same thing.

I think you took the wrong thing away from his post.

Grab leves and then...USE ANIMA to teleport to their camps? I THINK NOT! Chocobos are coming as well, I suggest we make a free optional cutscene for chocobos to pick-up and drop-off players at the Aetherite camp of their choice. Anima is limited and players are always starved for time. Why waste their time moving from point A to point B at all?

This is just the start of my revolutionary ideas for the game. Look forward to my next post about "Lev monsters being at a slight distance...how droll, make them warp to us."
To be blunt walking isn't "hard" nor does it add difficulty to anything. What needing to be able to walk or have limited transportation, or even the need to earn the right to go somewhere does. It adds a sense of accomplishment.

I've said it before I'll say it again.

In XI you had to earn your Airship pass, your Chocobo, your craigs, your warp spells, your outposts. Anything else also had a cost attatched to it. Warp cudgles were rather pricy at almost all points in the games life, warps in Al-Zhabi cost you precious Imperial standing points that were not limitless.

Their was a cost associated with everything, and it always felt rewarding to be able to afford or have access to those resources. XIV has none of that and I wish it would, I'll leave it at that for now.

There is no challenge in an obvious time sink, or broken mechanic.

Chiming in to agree with the general mood of responses here.

Time Sink =/= Difficulty. We DO, however, want a sense of accomplishment. Reward for work. I'm all for using quests or having to actually travel to a place first before being able to teleport/warp there, or to use transportation. If we start getting everything handed to us on a silver platter, FFXIV will just become Abyssea - Eorzea.

If you don't think new summoner is better, you're playing the wrong game.

Every game in existence is a time sink. They are for enjoyment purposes.

You can not just "reward" players all the time. There must be something to reward them FOR.

There is no sense of accomplishment in systems where rewards are handed out freely.

There's a significant difference, though, between a "Time Sink" and a Time Investment; namely, the reward obtained from the specific time that was invested.

The examples of XI that have been brought forth are of "Time Investments", not "Time Sinks"; that is, as soon as you invested the time to obtain the reward you were able to enjoy the reward without having to reinvest the same amount of time, if any.

I would like the time I spend playing XIV to feel like an investment - such as hobby - and not as just some time I spent aimlessly smashing buttons, just to do it all over again the next day for the exact same results.

Launch FFXIV -> Press "Win" button. -> The End.
