Washed-out colours/bad lighting?

For the most part I think the colors look just fine. The only problem I have is in some areas during sun up that everything becomes slightly bright and desaturated and looks unnatural.

You may try playing with your video card color settings including contrast brightness and saturation/digital vibrance.

Graphic settings as in the games settings, not video card.

The game is just right in terms of brightness. it's strange to me why people would have this issue. But I also know that if you play the game on analog video output rather than digital, your missing out in quality.

Oh. I don't think there is anything there that could wash out colors, even texture quality won't. Probably not a case of analog degradation either, you would see lots of distortion along with the low saturation. :/

I honestly like the soft and natural earth tones. My only problem is the lack of variety.

Just up the saturation if it bothers you too much.

This game is always too damn dark period..... seems like we get 15mins of nice shiny light a game hour and 45 mins of walk into a wall dark. IMO when games appear darker or designed this way its to hide crap or being lazy w/ effects/shadows etc. I miss Leve chest all the time because i cant fricken see them . I play on a 24"led monitor and a 47inch HDled TV i adjust the colors as much as possible to help the situtation but i cant fix poor visual lighting effects by adjusting my brightness tint etc.... Least in 11 i never had this problem ever.... and i remember them stating it wouldnt be a problem in this game yet it is.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I probably should have mentioned I'm on a PC. I'm using a Dell XPS 15 and I'm just using the laptop monitor, no external display.

I adjusted brightness, contrast and gamma in my NVIDIA settings but I can only alter them to a point or everything else not FFXIV becomes an eyesore. Honestly, by what others are saying here I don't think it's a problem with my display, although adjusting my settings does help. It seems more to do with the game itself. FFXI didn't have this problem, but then FFXI doesn't have such sophisticated lighting/graphics. But at least I can see everything properly once night falls.

I agree with the "15 mins of nice shiny light" comment above. I swear I've seen more dawn, dusk and night than actual daylight.

Okay, that ^ looks pretty good. I'm guessing that's a sunny day. Do you have any at night? Trying to work out whether the problem is really just my settings or not.

Caliburn, I have the same issues as you but yes on bright sunny days in the game I also see things like Felis's picture above. It's mostly the game.
Something about the colors just doesn't seem quite right much of the time.
