SPECIAL solo dungeons I can get behind, maybe akin to Maat from XI. DCUO did these types of things and it works pretty well. Basically imagine harder versions of our Job quests. The rewards aren't great, maybe no more than doing a map would be (Maybe it could be the new form of alexandrite maps!), but they're still prizes.
This is a multiplayer game. There is and will always be plenty of solo content, but there should ALWAYS be things locked behind group content, otherwise this would just be a single player game.
I understand your post, but I don't think you understand my post.

Like I said, I do not think they should make baby versions of raids where you get whatever loot you want and experience the full battle mech. etc. Just a soloable version for story purposes, and to be able to experience the full raid at your own pace. I know what the term "raid" means, but I am not referring to the act of playing with lot's of players, I am referring to the content at which you play normally with a raid.

Again, there is nothing wrong with options, and MMO's always provide updated content that you don't get with regular RPGs. Even adding soloable versions a while after everyone has had their fun with the reg. raid version.

You will not have soloable, current story content in this game, because of that philosophy.
If that's what you want, there ARE games that allow you to do so, such as Neverwinter and Vindictus (sorta in the latter case) but this isn't that type of game.

INDEPENDENT solo instances with their own goals and such, though, are definitely possible.

"Why play an mmo if you want to play solo?" Well, try finding a single player game that is as large and immersive as an mmo, with new content constantly being added. I mean, I've sunk hundreds of hours into Elder Scrolls games or classic Final Fantasy, but eventually you've played the whole thing and have nothing new to see. There are no content patches for those games, or expansions that add another 40% to the world map. You don't get an evolving storyline or new classes and characters every few years. An mmo isn't just a multiplayer game... it is a game that is constantly growing and adapting.

Personally, I play several mmos mostly by myself, because I enjoy the world building but don't have the time or patience to coordinate myself to a raid schedule. I'm mostly content with casual group content like Crystal Tower and 4-man dungeons. The ability to solo some fights would be a treat, so I'd definitely appreciate that type of content being added after the real raid groups have had their fun.

I'd be ok with this as long as the EXP/loot rewards are not as high as light/full party dungeons.

I think this could be a great alternative to FATEs and Dungeon Parties, but if you make the rewards to high then people would not do FATEs/Dungeons in parties. That obviously causes an issue for new people who want to do that content.

Maybe make it a weekly run? either that or something with lower exp/loot rewards.

I was just going to come in here to say this but I see it's already been covered. Thanks for representing those of us in the community who feel this way. ^^

If you only care about the story of a raid, youtube.com is that way ---->

Raiding is a social experience and is pointless without people to play with, and doubly pointless without item drops. No one does coil for the story, it's not even that interesting until turn 12. So this most likely will never be implemented, you'll just have to settle for the 'normal mode' alexander next expansion.

I would however support the ability to go into low level dungeons solo without level sync.

Agreed. I don't know what kind of epic story these people think they are missing out on. I think they think it's like Castrum Meridianum and Praetorium, with lots of cutscenes and story-telling. It's not. Most turns consist of you walking into a circle, a giant monster popping out, you defeating the giant monster, then walking on to the next circle. That's literally the 'story' of 90% of coil. You get a bit more in T5, T9 and a great cutscene in T12 (which you can youtube).

There should never be solo raids or dungeons in a mmo. MMOs are designed to be played in groups. XIV is already way way way too focused on solo/lowman everything.

If people want to play solo they need to stop playing mmos and stop asking for things that have no place in a multiplayer focused genre.

Did you even read my post? Or just saw the title of my thread and decided to vent a little?

"Never." Be careful with categorical statements like that! There should be some. For inclusiveness and things to do. There can be both solo and group raids. SE has the resources to develop both. If MMOs were designed to be played in a group, why is my character solo upon creation? MMOs are designed to do whatever the developer designs them to do. And absent solo and low-man options, you will have people clamoring for them.
